My self-summary
I'm a bit of an anti-world-traveler - grew up in the DC area, went to school in the DC area (University of Maryland), and joined a Boy Scout troop in the DC area - but I like to imagine that my Internet experience makes up for the lack of meatspace experience. (Then again, I also like to imagine I'm a superhero.)

As you may have guessed from my last parenthetical aside, I'm a pretty big fan of comics - both webcomics and print, though not the big superhero continuities of Marvel and DC. (I like superheroes, though - I'm trying to set up a superhero RPG.) I grew up watching a lot of movies - my favorite is Twelve Angry Men, but I liked Crank (haven't seen the sequel), Iron Man, and (I shouldn't admit this) Phone Booth. As for broadcast TV, I liked Monty Python's Flying Circus, and I hope Castle and The Unusuals get picked up, because I liked those too.

I'm also a fan of mathematics, philosophy, and the hard sciences. As a point of fact, my favorite philosopher is Imre Lakatos, particularly for his Method of Proofs and Refutations, described in the book "Proofs and Refutations" - but if you want philosophers you may have heard of, I like Daniel Dennett and the field of thought related to free will. Dropping back to mathematics: I enjoy it, although I've only studied it in depth insofar as it relates to engineering; forward to science, likewise.

I am not religious.

I am geeky, timid, and good at math
What I’m doing with my life
I'm still in school at the University of Maryland - I'm studying for a mechanical engineering Ph.D., and I rather would like to be a teacher. As for my pastimes, I would like to take up playing the piano again, and I would like to ride my bicycle more (although not those two simultaneously).
I’m really good at
mathematics and the hard sciences. I'm also a fair hand at tutoring in the above - I've got a reasonably good ability to explain things in a way which makes sense - and I read pretty quickly.
The first things people usually notice about me
I have a 'fro. Honest-to-goodness afro - more than one person has come up to me and asked to touch it (heaven knows why). Second thing people are likely to notice is that I have a bit of trouble modulating my voice - the moment I get excited about anything the volume goes up to eleven.

Third thing: I'm a total, unmitigated geek. No kidding.
