My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Easy-going, communicative, interested in social justice and environmental restoration. (The photo is eight years old.)
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Writing, organizing projects, thinking about saving the world, doing handyman work, imagining possibilities, enjoying daily life.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm not sure what people in general first notice about me, but the first thing that people with babies, dogs or cats that "don't like men" usually notice about me is that those babies, dogs and cats usually do like me. They probably know that I like them, too.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Amalie, The Princess Bride, Shakespeare In Love, Life is Beautiful, Chocolat, Oh Brother Where Art Thou, Like Water For Chocolate, Dr. Zhivago, The Weather Underground, The New York Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, live plays of all sorts, The World According to Garp, The Way of the Shaman, anything about or by the Dalai Lama, The Mists of Avalon, Black Elk Speaks, Seven Arrows, anything by Malcolm Gladwell, The Little Prince, acoustic music of all sorts, rock and roll from the 60's and 70's, string quartets, bagpipes from a distance, female vocalists, The Shook Twins, the Oregon Country Fair, Thai food, Indian food. That's my short list.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Feeling clean/warm showers (What a wonderful, simple luxury!)
Toothbrush and toothpaste.
Wonderful local eateries.
The wind and all the wild energy it brings.
Laughter, telling stories, listening-wondering-asking questions.
Holding hands.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How so many of us are so similar, that what we all love and hold dear is almost always the same. How climate change is changing the world. How to make my time and energy count towards having an interesting life.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I have seen the mummy exhibit, toured the submarine, gone to the ballet, ushered for modern dance shows, collected strange stories from strangers on the street (as part of a writing project that you can see at, witnessed the amazing BodyVox, helped feed 600 homeless people and poked around the Samurai exhibit at the Portland Art Museum. I've even participated in Portland's Annual Naked Bike Ride - and it was surprisingly un-self-conscious and fun. (I'm not sure I'd do it again but... yep, I did it again - so much fun!) I'm usually up for something new.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
On a public website? That's an oxymoron.

you watch this video and you connect with it. Really, it is wonderful and will make you smile.

And, if you are brave enough to take a chance on making a new friend.

P.S. I am a feminist. If you're confused about what that means, check out this short, beautiful, inspiring video. Be sure to read the five, short quotes. That explains it all.

P.P.S. If you love music and you love children, you will love this:

If you want me to contact you, send me a message that you actually write. Because I'm not a full-blown member, if you just "like" me, I won't actually be able to connect with you. Thanks.
