In love with cities, art, film, humor, culture and absurdity..
What I’m doing with my life
professional musician doing a mix of work in the city (orchestras, ensembles, Broadway), teaching and educational concerts. it's fun for the variety, stressful because it's freelance, but ultimately rewarding because it has sent me around the country/world and i like switching things up musically.
I’m really good at
seeing the big picture, solving problems, collecting music,
listening to stuff i like over and over, reading maps, polyrhythms!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
kubrick, lynch, cronenberg, coen brothers, kurosawa, mike leigh, altman, bergman, herzog, spielberg, woody allen, soderbergh, etc etc etc.. love comedy from old to new, documentaries: hoop dreams, encounters at the end of the world, the thin blue line.
early music (cavalli, monteverdi, purcell, bach) to modern stuff (boulez, ligeti, messiaen, dutilleux) rock from the 60s-90s.. love blues, jazz and older rap/hip-hop (east coast and southern), but Dre's new album is pretty heavy. I love music from all cultures (especially india, bulgaria, UK), no interest in current indie rock/pop.
The six things I could never do without
New York City
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Plenty of things!
Probably least among them: seriously, Why is it a growing trend to post photos holding a rifle/handgun? Really?
On a typical Friday night I am
i'm not into clubs; i'd rather hang with friends, meet up at a bar,
see a movie/concert/opera or walk around different neighborhoods
looking for fun stuff to do. as a freelancer my schedule varies, so
i don't favor any night, really-
