I'm interested in basically all creative mediums. I love music from
Miles Davis to Aphex Twin, Portishead to Santigold, Ibrahim Ferrer
to Erykah Badu, dead prez to Kate Bush... but my first love was
electronic music with a dark aesthetic: albums like Depeche Mode -
Violator and Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral. If I'm in the
mood, I could go dancing anywhere; whatever is playing; I want to
revel in it: hip hop, reggae, jazz, jungle, whatever, but again,
I'm especially at home at an industrial club. Hip hop probably
comes in second for dancing :)
I looooove books. From Russian literature (Dostoevsky and
Solzhenitsyn) to sci-fi (William Gibson and Philip K Dick), poetry
(Kim Addonizio and Borges), political analysis (Chomsky, Naomi
Klein, Chris Hedges), and Burroughs, Don DeLilo... Jared Diamond's
"Guns, Germs and Steel" is a favorite, as is "Carnage and Culture"
by Victor Hansen. I think those two books compliment each other
very well, along with Zbigniew Brzezinski's "The Grand
Chessboard"... Skinny Legs and All, Cloudsplitter, Anna Karenina...
TCL/Hippo Club's Quantum Mechanics Adventure ... yum yum yum eat em
up books!!!
Movies: Seven Samurai, Mulholland Dr, Fear and Loathing in Las
Vegas, Life Aquatic, The Science of Sleep, Matrix, Rurouni Kenshin,
Planet Earth, Everything Everything, Edward Scissorhands, City of
Lost Children, The Wall, Requiem for a Dream... Mostly I'll watch
whatever you (or my kids) want me to watch. I'm not picky; it's not
about the movie, it's about spending time with you. However, I am
critical. I will complain about plot holes and cliches afterwards,
but it's all in good fun---I may also gush about how great it was,
but that's more rare.
