UPDATE: Hello, lovely visitor! Currently on the road & away from our beloved NYC until early March.
Lanky, slinky, swagger. Intellect, humor, passion. Red wine, laughter and occasional late nights trading tales of travel and talking of books, art, film, speculating about the nature of time and memory. Shutting up to kiss. I'm always looking for fellow activists, academics, acrobats, artists, alchemists, archivists of forgotten dreams, and devil's advocates to share a happy hour or three.
What I’m doing with my life
Rogue scholar. Professional lefty. Free radical. Bushwick bohemian. Outlaw ethnographer. Culture warrior. Part-time Ugandan. Secret artist. Full time mediamaker. Renowned conversationalist on topics including life, the universe, the L train, etc.
I run an organization in East Africa that combines music television with journalism and human rights media. It is a privilege to do cool things that I care about. It variously involves publishing, producing, presenting, propaganda, intellectual property, pop stars, media piracy and puppets.
I’m really good at
Late nights. Lost weekends. Road trips. Making out.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I’m strutting down the street in an Italian flag crop top and matching running shorts with THE LARGEST PARROT THAT YOU HAVE EVER SEEN IN REAL LIFE on my shoulder.
No, not true. But that guy does sound awesome.
What do they notice? Tall, deep voice. I get compliments on my jacket sometimes.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Film: Yes and yes and yes. Let's sneak out of work during the day and see a matinee.
Music: Deep, dreamy, sometimes dark. Boards of Canada, Tosca, Siouxsie, Bauhaus, Joy Division, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, The Knife, Glass Candy, Django Reinhardt. Electrotango. Downtempo electronica of all sorts. The Smiths will be my favorite band until the day I die.
Books: Just left my last book on a plane. Does anyone know how "The Thin Man" ends?
The six things I could never do without
6. A voucher that allows me to pick six more things that I could never do without
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Evolution. Revolution. (r)Evolution? Neuroplasticity. The future. The past. The eternal ongoing Now. Whether yoga can be hacked. Memories of the desert and of the sea. The dance at the end of “8½”. The perfect way to kiss the nape of your neck.
On a typical Friday night I am
Searching the East Village for a drink with an ingredient that I've
never heard of made by a mustachioed bartender. Chatting with my
companions about the most interesting places they've been, what
they aspire to, what they stole when they were teenagers. Memories,
dreams, reflections, jokes. Seeking the impossible heart of Friday
Either that or Netflix.
