Books at the moment all seem to be centered around my studies in
becoming a teacher. I'm surrounded at the moment by several texts
and I'm supposed to be studying for a retreat coming up. I guess
that means I'm great at procrastinating.
In the movie department, I'd have to say, based on the movies that
I own, is: Tron, Star Wars, Star Trek, Logan's Run, Planet of the
Apes [the original], and quite a Disney collection on VHS [not sure
if the VHS player even works].
I had a roommate that was a music major in college, and where I
worked they would play the Disney movies on loops. We also didn't
have cable. So, I'd find myself getting the Disney songs stuck in
my head, I'd end up buying the movies, and I'd take them home and
the roommate and I would end up having sing-a-longs. I'm sure it
was quite the scene. Now, I've got the VHS to prove it.
I saw Hugo recently and loved it. Perfect cast and a great story.
The idea presented, that we're all part of a larger machine,
everyone has a role to play, and there are no extra parts, is the
same as the Buddhist emptiness [see below]. We don't need to be
embarrassed by our lives or where we are. Reminds me of one of my
"You're perfect just the way you are, and you could use a little
improvement." -Suzuki Roshi
Shows ... right now I'm watching Once Upon a Time and Revolution.
However, I can also be found watching How It's Made, Nova, Star
Trek, and I partake of the Jersey Shore every now and again.
Music ... I've found myself on Amazon buying cheap used CDs that
turn out to be from various Goodwill locations. I find that
fascinating that they're using technology to redistribute goods. I
used to say that the only things I couldn't stand were country and
heavy metal; however, I've found exceptions to both of those ...
although I don't think that I own very much heavy metal.
Going from Google Music on what has the most plays would be: Modest
Mouse, New Order, Telepopmusik, They Might Be Giants, Everything
But the Girl, Daft Punk, Blue Six, Oasis, Issac Hayes, Fiona Apple,
Violent Femmes, Phoenix, Morrissey, Fantastic Plastic Machine, Ben
Folds Five, Tori Amos, MGMT, Willie Nelson, Weezer.
Food ... I will eat most anything. Actually, I don't think that
I've refused to eat anything ... maybe cauliflower ... ick. My
brother tries to play this game where he wants to pick what I'm
going to have for dinner when we go out. He tries to pick what he
thinks is the most disgusting thing that he can find on the menu to
see if I'd eat it. Most of the time it's what I'd plan on having.
Luckily he doesn't know my kryptonite is cauliflower.
