I'm a grad student who finally has some time to myself after two years of doing nothing but doing nothing and doing math. I don't want to waste it and I'm sick of living on one of the most famous cities in the planet and knowing how to walk to five places, all of which are on campus. I want to try new things, whether it's joining this site or exploring what Philly has to offer--cultural stuff, plays, social/political work, getting back into movies, which I used to be really into--whatever. Personality...I'm a pretty deadpan guy, I tend to express myself more ironically than directly, I appreciate cleverness but I get turned off by guys who turn every conversation into a contest. I'm pretty analytical and I'll have a conversation about pretty much anything if the other person doesn't mind me asking stupid questions for various reasons; I read a lot but I don't really have set in stone opinions about that many things. I'm not much for categories so I can't think of too many other boxes to put myself into, I probably won't put you into too many either.

I am Sarcastic, Cerebral, and Funny

Wandered somewhat randomly into a doctoral program, now trying to make the most of it. Still spend a lot of time on that, my friends make fun of me because I bring math books into bars (just because it's convenient, dammit).

A couple of things, none of which are how to sound cutely enticing in paragraph-long snippets. (seriously, I hate this. I would a million times rather talk to someone and have this shit come up naturally)

Music: I tend to have a couple of songs I stumble onto that I play over and over. Like "Steve McQueen" by the Automatic. I think I was looking for the Sheryl Crow song...Recently obsessed with Billy Talent for some reason.

Movies: I decided to add three movies I really like: Network, The Taking of Pelham 123, and Shaun of the Dead. Apparently, only two other people on this site list all three of these movies, and one is a straight girl and one is a straight guy. I must represent my people.

Recent movies: Margin Call and In the Loop are my favorite recent screenplays. Also liked The Help (which got entirely too much flack, I think, from people who probably had their critiques ready before they saw it), Hugo (especially some hypothetical Special Edition that cut out the Sacha Baron Cohen scenes), and The Rum Diary, although they wouldn't necessarily be all-time favorites.

3) Uh, not really a "stuff" guy and that's about all I own. Pillows? Oxygen?

You alternate between wanting to watch trash TV to make fun of it and wanting to watch snob cinema. Possibly also to make fun of it.
