My self-summary
I'm a kind, open-minded individual, with a passionate sense of social justice, and an occasionally brilliant wit. I'm a self-identified geek who's into Buffy comics, slice-of-life anime, and the odd game of magic cards or munchkin with close friends. I like to read books with captivating stories, although for non-fiction I'll read pretty much anything. I'm also into cooking, watching movies, taking walks in parks, and just talking about stuff.

In a relationship, I like to be romantic and spontaneous. I'm also pretty affectionate, and of the personal opinion that hugs are awesome :) I'd like to be with someone laid back, and easy going, who doesn't mind engaging in stimulating conversation, and ideally who has something they're passionate about.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a fourth year anthropology student at Carleton U.
I’m really good at
I don't mean to brag, but I make a pretty kickass stir fry.
The first things people usually notice about me
I haven't really conducted a poll on this one. One thing everyone ends up commenting about eventually though are my eyes. Apparently I give some very powerful looks.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
My favourite books run the gamut from academically oriented writing about society, politics, or ethnography to Calvin and Hobbes treasuries.
Semi-secretly, I have a love for drugstore romance type stories (I would consider a writer like Robert Rodi to be in this genre, but generally typical romance books are written with straight people in mind) and other generally sappy novels about two men falling madly in love and overcoming all obstacles.
As I mentioned before, I also love comic books, my current fave series being Books of Magic, Midnight Nation, Ex Machina, The Sandman, Transmetropolitan, Buffy Season 8, older issues of the Exiles (it really went downhill later on), and an odd assortment of other marvel gems (The Astonishing X-Men, The Runaways, The New X-Men...etc).

TV shows about science fiction and science facts both have a draw for me (particularly when they tend to bounce between the two), and I find myself just as bewildered and entertained by some BBC Horizon documentaries as I am by Doctor Who. My favourite sci-fi series of all time has to be the 2005 reboot of Battlestar Galactica, since it is the most perfect mix of sci-fi, political drama, and supernatural quest I've ever seen (although I haven't watched Babylon 5 yet and I've heard it's similar), but I'm just as into dumb sci-fi like Star Trek (mostly TNG and Voyager, despite the latter having a dumb ending).

What really draws me into any work of fiction is the story, and I usually prefer pieces composed of lots of separate character studies. The same goes for movies, and television.

Music for me is tricky, but I'd have to say that my favourite genres are, in order: Alternative, Soul, Rockabilly, Electronica, Experimental and Jazz. The more they mix, the better they sound to me. If you know of/love Mike Patton, you know a bunch of what I like. Other favourite artists of mine are Amy Winehouse, Neko Case, Joni Mitchell, The Smiths, Matt Good, Justice, and The Cramps.

For favourite foods...I don't know. I can appreciate a wide variety of different flavours, and I always like to surprise myself by trying something new. Of course, I'm white, so I love sushi. I also like pretty much anything that lived in the ocean before it was on my plate. Lobster tops my list.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Socialism, feminist theory, Foucault, cyborgs, GLBTTQ rights, power relations, the labour movement, the concept of 'race', random stories, space travel, folk tales, myth, feelings, poetry, and how I can write in ways that inspire people.
On a typical Friday night I am
Mild to wild...dependent on who I'm with/the presence and quantity of alcohol :D
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have a completely irrational fear of any and all flying and stinging insects (bees, wasps, hornets...etc.)
