My self-summary
I'm a bit of a geek, defined as one who is passionate about interests outside the mainstream. I geek out over food, boardgames, beer & other ferments, politics & current events, evolution, music, history (especially military or colonial)
What I’m doing with my life
I've been volunteering at an organic farm on the weekends for a few years now. Not much but it's a start. Really fun planting, feeding chickens, cleaning after goats, etc. It's inspired me to get back to what's important in life.

Going on Youtube and giving a thumbs up to every "Steven Fucking Peavis" comment I can find.

I do have a regular 9 to 5 job, doing Photoshop work that allows me to be somewhat creative while still appealing to my numbers-oriented left brained nature.

I spend a good bit of time trying to figure out what food my dog likes best. The tentative rankings so far are 1) Schezuan Duck 2) Salmon 3) Ice Cream
I’m really good at
Cooking, seeing the other side's point of view and the Christian Side Hug.
The first things people usually notice about me
I've heard my brutal honesty more than once but obviously the correct answer is my beard and bald head.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books- Nonfiction mostly. History, evolution, politics, social commentary. I know that makes me sound like a brainiac showoff but I really don't read that much but when I do, that's what I read.

My musical house is built around two foundational pillars: First, Stephen Merritt in all forms (Magnetic Fields, The 6ths, Future Bible Heroes, Gothic Archies)
And second, Black Sabbath and all modern day Sabbath worshippers. Kyuss, Electric Wizard, Mars Red Sky, Acid King, Kylesa, Witch, Atomic Bitchwax, Mastodon, Zoaraster, Monster Magnet, Bongzilla, Fu Manchu, Alabama Thunderpussy, Colourhaze.

Yeah I know, you've never heard of any of those oddly named bands. That's ok. I listen to lots of other stuff too but I'll always return to those two.

Food: I'm a localvore although I will travel as far as Gwinnett for some good Korean.

I've recently become a little obsessed with fermented foods. I've made kimchi, saurkraut, pickled green beans, pickled daikon, fermented salsa, kombucha. It tastes great and the science behind it is fascinating. Listening to Sandor Katz speak about ferments is inspiring.

Miscellaneous people I admire: Derrick Jensen, Dan Savage, Noam Chomsky, Arundhati Roy, Lawrence Lessig, Sandor Katz, Joel Salatin, Slavoj Zizek, George Takei
The six things I could never do without
1) Fresh produce
2) My dog
3) Music
4) Honest human interaction
5) A hot shower first thing in the morning
6) Time to reflect and be amazed at this crazy world and the universe at large
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The value of transparency and honesty. In both personal life and on the larger social scale. Our government and businesses both do horrible things in our name that they keep hidden from our view. War, espionage, animal cruelty, human exploitation, environmental damage, all kept behind the curtain in an effort to keep us happy. I prefer to pull back the curtain, see what's really going on and have an honest discussion of priorities.
Same can be said for my personal relationships. Be honest and open to a fault. Only by letting others see the real you, as you are, can meaningful relationships be established.
Whew! I'm not always so preachy but I guess I was in a mood when I wrote this.
On a typical Friday night I am
Well, last Friday night, I went out to my local watering hole, spent some time with my friends and gawked at a big art installation. Fridays are also good for live music, trips to BuHi or evenings in with my dog, Netflix and Burger Win if I'm already ODed on the social interaction.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
For most of my life, I've felt like more of a Man-Child than a full grown man. I hate to admit it, but all those Disney fairy tales have brain washed me into believing that you can't be a real man without a woman by your side. But the logical, feminist side of me would never respect a woman that couldn't live without me. So I need you to play along. Let me open doors for you, drive you around town and kill the occasional bug but don't actually fall apart if I don't want to spend every second with you. Just let me believe you might. ;)
