Things I write:
and maybe the occasional pop-culture essay. I'm also trying (but mostly failing) to learn French. I've got menu items, food ingredients and Québécois profanity down, at least.
Other than that, I have a lot of pride in my cooking and I clean some mean dishes. Like, you wouldn't believe how clean those dishes are when I'm done.
I'm also pretty good at talking my way into and/or out of things. Take that as you will.
My degree was in English Literature and my specialization was modern Literature 1900-present. Vonnegut is my favorite author and Sirens of Titan is my absolute favorite book. I'm also a huge fan of Thomas Pynchon, David Foster Wallace and Haruki Murakami. With the serious stuff out of the way, my raging nerd passion and professional aspiration is Science Fiction. Some of my absolute favorite SciFi books, in no particular order:
Lord of Light
The Quantum Thief
The Windup Girl
Oryx and Crake
The Lathe of Heaven
I have an intense weakness for 70s kung-fu films. I really like Wes Anderson and Darren Aronofsky. The Royal Tenenbaums and The Fountain are my two favorite films. Also, Party Monster. You must see this if you haven't already.
I haven't had a TV now for about a year, but when I did, I pretty much just watched Travel Channel, Food Network, Science Channel, and the Discovery Channel.
How its Made
Iron Chef (especially the original dubbed japanese one)
Through the Wormhole
I really like period pieces too. Rome, The Borgias, Boardwalk Empire, Band of Brothers/The Pacific, The Tudors, etc.
I cycle through a genre at a time. I really keep it to myself though, I don't talk about the music I listen to unless I'm asked. I feel like what someone listens to is really quite personal.
I eat everything and anything. Everyone's culture is interesting, and I've found that each culture has at least something I find fantastic. I will try anything once and then again in the morning. If given a choice of what to eat, I try to always choose the place I haven't been to yet, order the dish I haven't tried yet, etc. As for drinks, I like dark beers (the darker the better) and red wines when I'm home, gin & tonic when I'm out.
