My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Here are some facts about me:

I lived in New York for 6 years, and go back whenever I can. New York is better than LA - in my experience, the only people who care about this live in LA.

I got to LA from New York via a week-long road trip. It was amazing.

I like to walk whenever I can (as opposed to, say, driving).

I'm friends with a surprising number of Canadians.

A friend who's really into Myers-Briggs assures me that I am a paradigm INTJ. If you don't know what that means, that's ok, because I'm not entirely sure myself.

I once talked my way out of a speeding ticket when I was going 80 in a 50. This might be my greatest achievement as a human being.

I like amber ales and Irish Whiskey.

I have a great relationship with my family, and I consider myself incredibly fortunate in this.

I have strong political convictions, but rarely like to discuss them, since political discussions often turn into arguments.

I hate arguments.

My sense of humor skews toward the absurd or ironic.

I'm looking for a relationship, not just a hookup.

I will never cheat. I will never lie. I will always treat you with respect. I don't play games.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I came to Los Angeles to pursue the dream - where, in my case, pursuing the dream consists in getting a PhD from a top-ranked Philosophy program. It's a non-standard dream.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
-Reading, writing, and other scholarly pursuits.
-Quoting obscure lines from movies or shows that deserve to be quoted.

I'm kind of good at:
-Witty repartee.

I'm terrible at:
-Feigning interest.
-Accepting things without question.
-Thinking up ways to describe myself.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm tall - 6'2". And no, I'm not making that up... I guess a lot of guys lie about their height on here? If I was just trying to be impressive, I'd say I was 6'6".

I'm 6'6".
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

This list isn't exhaustive - I'm sure I forgot a lot of things, some of which would probably be toward the tops of their respective lists. Oh well.

Shows: I watch way too much TV. There's just too much good stuff on for me not to watch it. The Wire, The Sopranos, Deadwood, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Buffy, Firefly, Arrested Development, Sherlock, Hannibal, Broadchurch, Justified, Parks and Recreation, Community, Louie, Archer, Happy Endings, Doctor Who, HIMYM, and many more.

Books: A large number of obscure academic tomes. Anything by Michael Lewis, particularly "The Big Short." In general, any non-fiction book that explores an area of relevance to contemporary politics or economics. A Song of Ice and Fire. Ender's Game. Anything by Neil Gaiman. Lord of the Rings. The Complete Calvin and Hobbes.

Movies: Juno, The Big Lebowski, The Godfather 1, Indiana Jones (1 and 3), Spirited Away, The first Matrix, Star Wars original trilogy, Lord of the Rings, In Bruges, Memento, The Princess Bride, Aliens, Pulp Fiction, Brick, Groundhog Day, The Dark Knight, Mean Girls, The Social Network, Fight Club, Chicken Run, Muppet Treasure Island.

Music: Anything rock. I don't really have a list of favorite bands, but if I did, the Foo Fighters would probably be at the top. The two radio stations I listen to most often are 98.7 and NPR.

Food: Italian, Mexican, and good old American cuisine. I have no tolerance for spicy food, but I'm starting to develop a taste for Indian and Thai. My palate is actually pretty basic, but I'll try anything once.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
-Food that is terrible for me (I try to avoid it, but I don't know what I would do if it wasn't an available option).
-Weekends, or any other day when I can sleep in.
-Hot showers.
-A sense of humor, in myself as well as others.
-Friends and family.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Philosophy, obviously. Ethics in particular.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Studying - sad but true!

When I can, I like to go out to dinner or grab a few drinks with a friend. If it's a night in, I'll probably be marathoning a TV show.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
There are all sorts of private things that I'm willing to admit that will, nonetheless, never be posted where people that I've never met could read them. If I was willing to post something here, it would, by definition, no longer be private.

Get a drink or four in me, and the stories will come out...

you want to. Seriously. I'm aware that there's some vaguely-defined social convention that says only guys should send the first message. That's bullshit. If you're at all interested, send me a quick "hi!" to let me know. I'd love to hear from you!
