I am granola-ee, out-going, and laidback.

My Self-Summary

I'm a twenty eight year old Musician who happens to be a Grad student at Duke University. Music is my life but I also enjoy sailing or wandering through the woods. I like reading, running, soccer, frisbee sports, horse back riding, swing dancing and going on random adventures. I'm told I'm pretty laid back and I happen to be kind of a beer snob. I love sitting around writing acoustic rock songs and if I don't go camping every so often I actually get kind of pissy (well, pissy for me anyway). I worked at a summer camp in various different positions for a couple years. Spent some time in India studying religions and culture. My chaco's are an almost permanent extension of my feet (although if I didn't have to wear shoes...). Recently I've really been getting into swing dancing, disc golf (old school style) and wilderness survival. Yes there is no real coherency between these three, but they're all kind of fun.

What I’m doing with my life

Grad school (I already covered that), I'm also the lead singer of a rock band. In the meantime I'm trying to see if I can turn my bicycle into my only form of transportation.

I’m really good at

Running distance or sprints, Ultimate frisbee, writing music (at least people tell me), blah blah blah I can usually talk to just about anyone, anywhere and not seem A) sketchy or B) overbearing.

The first things people usually notice about me

I dress as though I'm always ready to backpack. I'm pretty easy going, and apparently I swagger, which I've never really noticed, but a few semi-reliable sources say that it is so. I however maintain that these people are liars.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

(A)Books. Ya right like there is room... Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, The Count of Monte Cristo, anything by Plato, Ender's Game, The Lord of the Rings, Jack London, Walden, the Great Gatsby, Catcher in the Rye, Shakespeare, The Odyssey, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (and HuckFinn), The Brothers Kamarazov, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Ivanhoe, anything involving King Arthur, Lord of the Flies. (B) Movies. Fight Club, High Fidelity, The Adventures of Pete and Pete, Much Ado about Nothing, Lord of the Rings (I think this makes me a nerd..), Vanilla Sky, Harvey, Breakfast and Tiffany's, The Graduate, Rear Window, Spinal Tap, Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail, Vertigo, Shawshank Redemption, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, From Russia with Love, The Last Samurai, Almost Famous Iron Monkey, Rumble in the Bronx, The Big Lebowski, Reservoir Dogs, O Brother Where Art Thou?, The Seven Year Itch, ... blah blah (C) ok... R.E.M., Counting Crows, Jimmy Eat World, Elliot Smith, Death Cab for Cutie, Guster, Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Rachel's, Johnny Rivers The Hollies, Belle and Sebastian, Tommy James and the Shondells, The Temptations, Cat Stevens, The Shins, The Postal Service, Weezer, Modest Mouse, Rusted Root, Rush, The Violent Femmes (because they bring all their equipment on the bus!). Sunny Day Real Estate, Knee Deep Shag, Coheed and Cambria, Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Rolling Stones, Contours, The Who, Joe Purdy, Wilco, The Guess Who, CCR, alright for now. (D) Indian food rocks, other than that not real picky.

The six things I could never do without

My Guitar, Sail boats, the forest, a good book, good music and my friends.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

The Cypress Tree in the garden, Ethics, how to undermine the republican parties attempts to turn everyone in America into money grubbing thieves.

On a typical Friday night I am

With friends, causing whatever havoc.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I've read Pride and Prejudice twice... because I enjoyed it.

You should message me if

You feel like it. I really have only one qualifier. You must understand that I think that any writing of Ayn Rand is the at the intersection of the worst parts of Republican, libertarian and secular humanist philosophies held up as the highest good (you know that Ayn Rand hates charity right?). Incidentally I actually get along with Secular humanists quite well, I just put them on the list because it really pisses off the republicans.
