My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a multiple transplant, moved to New York City by way of Chicago via Upstate New York
via Boston, from Vermont, starting from California.
I've spent now most of my time in academic research,
growing cells and making proteins, staining tissues, almost all of it glowing.
Once I get back to regular swimming I'll probably have a whiff of chlorine about me all the time from
the pool...
I fucking love plaid.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Cancer immunology, with plenty of microscopes. Also on a quest to cultivate a high quality bad movie collection. Recommendations appreciated.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Simpsons/Futurama/MST3K references for any occasion. 1-4-5 and the pentatonic scale. Drawing simple cartoons (but not so much with any sort of stories, or dialogue... I really should start working on that...) Taking pictures of cells. Triumphing over rebellious ankles.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Glasses? Of course name usually ends up being a topic of conversation when I first meet someone.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Well, obviously, Simpsons (classic episodes only) Futurama, MST3k. Dr. Who, Twin Peaks, Party Down, Parks and Rec as well. Anything the Cohen Brothers, Or Kurosawa, Sometimes Terry Gilliam, Paul Thomas Anderson... this could go a while. And that's just the good movies! There's also Samurai Cop, Miami Connection, Disco Godfather, Things, Breakin 2, R.O.T.O.R., Robo-Vampire.
John Vanderslice, Blonde Redhead, Pavement, Modest Mouse (old, none of the new stuff) Dirty Projectors, Sonic Youth, Pinback, Yo La Tengo, The Handsome Family, Neutral Milk Hotel, Bill Callahan, Radiohead, DEVO, TV on the Radio.
Recently got sucked into the Foundation trilogy, and I've always had a soft spot for Philip K Dick. Hell, I might as well list the sci fi standards here (Enders Game, Dune, Stranger in a Strange Land, H.P. Lovecraft). 100 Years of Solitude, Grapes of Wrath, bunch of other stuff I was fortunate enough to have been assigned in high school. Slaughterhouse 5, Metamorphosis. I recently decided to read Moby Dick and HOLY SHIT!
And pie. Specifically Hoosier Mama Pie Company pies, so sad to see them go in Chicago.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Central Heating in the winters,
Boots,
Toothbrush and toothpaste,
Allergy meds,
Something to occupy my mind,
The scientific method
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Used to be the corpse eating robot apocalypse, but lately I'm more and more convinced they'll be a mechanism by which those with capital will finally edge out human labor. As you can guess, I don't see it getting really awesome anytime soon.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Haven't gotten a routine yet, though I suspect swimming will take up my Fridays before long.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I get maybe a little TOO much enjoyment out of counting and wrapping my spare change for deposit...

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You can have a conversation based soley around Simpsons or MST3K quotes (suggested, not required). You have story ideas that I could draw for. You can teach me to be a better guitar player. You want to discuss my theory that Ahab and Fedallah are photo negatives of Ishmael and Qeequeg, and whether or not the Pequod can be interpreted as a metaphor for an individual. You have a copy of "Footprints on the Moon" in widescreen and original Italian with subtitles. Or if you feel like it, who am I to stop you?
