I love music and art and I try to catch a few shows every month. I enjoy walking around the city’s museums without a care in the world (the re-opened Renwick is pretty cool). I'm trying to build up a little art collection (mostly prints now but hopefully there will be more original art soon and maybe, just maybe, I'll start getting more of my collection framed). I’ve spent 10 years (collectively) in DC; that’s the longest I’ve ever lived in a city or town.
What I’m doing with my life
I spent my late teens and early 20s in the Air Force since I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. I’m currently doing IT work for a law firm.
I occasionally volunteer at a children's writing center helping the children to write more gooder.
I ran my first marathon last year; I was on track to run Chicago this year but injuries kept that from happening. There's always next year?
I’m really good at
having a terrible sense of direction; I am so glad that GPS receivers are a standard feature in phones or else I’d never get anywhere.
The first things people usually notice about me
I get compliments on a few pairs of glasses that I own and people still grab my arms to look at my tattoos on random occasions (please don't do this, you can just ask).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
The Count of Monte Cristo is my favorite novel; I just bought a new copy so I’m due for a re-read soon. I don't read as much as I'd like to, but I do try to finish a novel or two a month. I usually tend to choose my next novel by jacket/cover art which is a shitty way to pick books.
I'm really into artsy films and stupid movies. Some of my favorites are: American Werewolf in London, Le Samourai, Memento, It Happened One Night, The Jerk, Pierrot Le Fou, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Dr. Strangelove, The Royal Tenenbaums, and City Lights.
These are some of the TV shows I’m into: Bob’s Burgers, Jessica Jones (feminist detective noir with superpowers, hell yeah!), Master of None, Mind of a Chef.
I mostly listen to the indie-type musics and tend to buy my music on vinyl nowadays. God, I’m such a stereotype… Here’s a random list of shows I’ve been to recently (or not recently depending on when you’re reading this and how often I edit…): Deerhunter, Beirut, Okkervil River, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Ride, Explosions in the Sky, Low, Yo La Tengo. I'm always on the lookout for new stuff so feel free to tell me what you're currently listening to.
I love food so much that I eat it every day.
The six things I could never do without
A, E, I, O, U, and sometimes Y.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Food. What stupid thing I'm going to get as a tattoo next. Puppies
On a typical Friday night I am
going to a concert, vegging out, at a bar, with friends, watching a
movie, wrestling with bears at gay bars, partying, saving puppies
from burning buildings, playing pinball, leaving bars once cover
bands start playing.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
When I was a kid I used to pit my animal crackers in battles
against each other to find the strongest and thus most delicious
cracker. I might still do this.
You should message me if
You'd like to catch a concert or a movie. If you'd enjoy a nice walk in a park and maybe a picnic. If you have a dog or cat and would like to talk about how awesome they are. If you'd like to join me for a night at the opera or to a show at a theater (or theatre if you want to get fancy). If you think we’d make great arch-nemesis (or friends). If you'd like to grab a drink. Or maybe six.
