My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hi,

My name is John.  I live in beautiful East York with my two sons, who are 16 and 14 respectively.    I know the single dad thing is an issue for many of the ladies in my target demographic, but both my kids are in high school and increasingly independent, which means I am increasingly independent too and it won’t be so many years now before they fly the coop and leave me to my own devices.  That said, if single dads really aren't your thing, you should probably move along.  Que sera, sera.

I have also been adopted by a dog and a cat. The dog, because he thinks I'm awesome, the cat because I keep her food bowl full and I scratch her back passably well.

I am a hippy at heart and I still hold fast to my hippy ideals – Peace, Love, and soya beans. I have found to my great delight, that ground beef makes an excellent substitute for those struggling with the high cost of soya beans.

I’m not very attached to material things.  I prefer a simple life, uncluttered by unnecessary objects.  What I value most is good conversation and companionship and music.    I confess though that as I have grown older I have acquired a fine appreciation for certain modern conveniences such as indoor plumbing, coaxial cables, and a firm mattress.

I am an optimist, inclined to see the good in people, animals and life. I am honest, empathetic, affectionate, and smarter than the average bear. I have a curious mind and eclectic interests. I still have all my original parts, including teeth. I am introspective, thoughtful and calm. I rarely get riled, and I don't sweat the small stuff. I am left-of-center politically. I have a laid-back personality, a strong belief in personal responsibility, and the inclination to live and let live. I believe that doing the right thing is one of the secrets to a happy life. I love the outdoors and am 4-20 friendly. I love music and humor and I think the two go together like peanut butter and chocolate.

I enjoy sports. As a viewer, primarily Baseball and NFL football. As a participant, golf, tennis, cycling, swimming and baseball to name a few, although its been a few years since I've picked up a racquet - or a golf club for that matter, but I'm really hoping to get back on the links this year. I never was much good at golf, but I always had loads of fun playing.

I don't drive – never have, so I'm looking for someone local. I do however ride my bike when the weather is good and I enjoy long walks. I especially enjoy long walks if I have company.

I'm looking for a kindred soul. Someone who seeks an intellectual, emotional, and physical relationship. Someone with a passion for life. Someone with whom I can spend my tomorrows. Someone like you?
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm in the banking business, but not like Bonnie and Clyde were in the banking business. My line of work is much less risky and I really can't rock a fedora the way Clyde did. I love my job though and I do it very well. It's intellectually stimulating and tremendously satisfying - I almost feel guilty about getting paid. Almost

Solving problems. It's a core component of mt work, and I do it well.

Really difficult crosswords. I'm in mourning right now because they killed my favorite online crossword – the Puzzler at the Washington Post. I have been consoling myself with the one in the LA Times which is occasionally almost as good.

Playing guitar badly. I can't play a song clean from one end to the other and most days I can't even make it to the chorus, but I'm absolutely unabashed at my complete lack of talent or ability. I sing like Yoko and dance like a fish out of water, but I do so with style and enthusiasm.

Music of the '60s and '70s: Progressive Rock, Folk, Psychedelia, Jazz, Motown, Blues. Hippy music. Not a fan of Opera, Disco or Rap but I can stand them in (very) small doses. Am slightly more tolerant of Classical and Country. I'm not entirely stuck in the past as I also enjoy more topical music such as Peter Gabriel, Laurie Anderson, Dire Straits, REM, and Tom Waits. Always looking to expand my musical horizons. Would love to hear what is on your play list!

I was an English major at school and am well grounded in the classics, as well as a smattering of post-modern American Lit. I especially enjoy books that mix absurd humor with the profound. Some of my favorite authors include Roger Zelazney, Stanislaw Lem, Herman Hesse, and JG Ballard. Recent books I have enjoyed: 'To Say Nothing of the Dog' by Connie Willis, “Year Zero” by Rob Reid, and “Red Shirts” by John Scalzi.

I don't often go to the movies, so most of the ones on my favorites list are not very current. Favorites include anything by Stanley Kubrick, Mystery Men, Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, and The Changeling (the old one, with George C Scott).
