My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I've always been reluctant to "toot my own horn", so writing an online dating profile comes to me as naturally as flying comes to a tortoise.

It's a frustrating balancing act between persuasion and honesty on a profile. I'm trying to be honest here, so please forgive me if I fall back to humor to blunt my edges. It's sort of my go-to when I'm uncomfortable. On the bright side, I'm REALLY good at humor.

Aside from being a joker, I see myself as principled and empathic. Balancing those two things isn't always easy. It seems as if the two things would go hand in hand, but there are plenty of situations where doing what's ethical feels cruel, and doing what feels correct would do a great deal of damage to others.

I'm a very curious person. I constantly seek truth, and when truth cannot be found (which is pretty much always), I settle for facts. Thanks to this curiosity, and thanks to years of hanging out with really nerdy friends, I have a great deal of knowledge that I love to share.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Respiring, metabolizing proteins and carbohydrates, Struggling in vain against the eventual heat death of the universe, or at least the end of my biological processes.

===== Serious answer =====

I'm going to school full time, getting a certificate in Business Information Technology, and I'm proud to say I'm really good at it. I've been informally tutoring a few of my classmates, but I'm hoping to become a formal tutor and actually get paid for my hard work :P.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I know a lot of information. Much of it often useless, but I've found surprising ways to leverage seemingly worthless data. For instance, I can come up with mind boggling similes based off of objects from past eras. In a school project, I compared the usability of computer interfaces (like keyboards), to the usability of early firearms compared to bow and arrows.

If you want to know how, message me. If you don't, message me anyway. I promise not to tell you if you don't want to know. Pinky swear.

Oh, I'm also really good at computer related stuff. You probably guessed that from the previous section, but I figure I'll clarify anyway ;).
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I am larger than a bread basket, and I am not spider-man.

Usually the first thing people notice about me is that I am a stranger who has just started talking to them about how nice their shoes are.

I am really friendly, and enjoy talking to, and meeting people. It doesn't matter who they are, everyone is fascinating in their own way.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
I love books and movies. I spend a huge amount of time absorbing both through my pores. In liquid form ;).

===== Favorite Fiction Authors =====

Jim Butcher, Terry Pratchett (I appreciate his absurdist sense of humor), Dan Simmons.

===== Favorite Non-Fiction Books =====

Shake Hands with the Devil by Romeo Dallaire, The Natashas by Victor Malarek. I also spend a lot of time reading about, a shit load of things. I enjoy history, politics, social sciences, current events, technology, philosophy.

===== Movies =====

I love so many types of movies, all for different reasons. I love movies by Studio Ghibli, because they are cute, and SO HUMAN. There is so much more going on in the story, than you immediately realize.

I like most Pixar and Dreamworks movies, they are entertaining, and less flashy than a lot of live action movies.

But I like all sorts of movies, except maybe stuff like 2Fast2Furious, not really my cup of tea. When I sit through action movies, I generally poke fun at them the whole time.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My friends and family - They are very important to me. Being loyal to them is important to me, and their loyalty helps me get through the hard times.

The internet, or at least books - I am a curious person. I seek to understand the world around me. I also seek to understand myself.

A friend of mine described me as "questing", and I suppose the word fits. I never really settle into a view of the world or myself. As soon as I find one answer, I discover half a dozen more questions.

Creature comforts - You know you feel the same ;).

Public Transportation - So I don't need to walk everywhere.

Soap boxes - Because what else would I stand on when I get into a good rant?

Good Conversation - We all discover a great deal about ourselves when we discuss our ideas with others. Even if we disagree, as long as we are respectful and open minded, we can have our worldview flipped over.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Honestly, it's hard to describe all of the things I think about.

Sometimes I think about ethics, and who I am. Am I the kind of person I aspire to be. Are my beliefs reasonable and rational. Are my values reflected in the way I conduct myself.

I also try to understand how our world works. I'm a problem solver who wants to make the world better for everyone. I don't have a lot of power to do that just yet, but I try to make decisions that lead in that direction.

And, I question everything. I question my own desires, my own beliefs, but also the beliefs I've learned from others, and the beliefs I disagree with.

And all of that really only scratches the surface.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Every Wednesday I hang out with a few buddies and play Pathfinder. It's a pen and paper RPG. Sort of like make-believe, but with rules governing how your imaginary character functions. You create a personality, and try to roleplay your character in ways that match that characters personality.

It's fascinating, because you don't always know how things are going to turn out. Characters interact, sometimes you roll well, or roll poorly, allowing your character to accomplish something amazing, or fail miserably.

I've been in the habit of playing Goblin characters that have good intentions, but are impulsive and short-sighted.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You're looking for someone sensitive, who defines himself through his obligations to those he cares about. And you like smart asses who have the bad habit of using a big word when a small one would probably do the trick.
