My self-summary Propose an edit
Some people will say I am too serious, that I plan too much and
worry too much and forget how to have fun. Others will say that I
have a sarcastic (and sometimes mean) sense of humor, that I love
to laugh with my whole body, that I can enjoy the moment as it
happens. And still others will say that I am intelligent and
sensible and kind. I am the mom who bakes the best cookies; I am
the friend who always listens; and I am the girl who has a secret
romantic heart hidden behind all the cynicism. I'm a writer, a
mother, an activist, a political junkie, and so much more.
Some important things to know about me: I'm a total liberal. I
could lie and say I'm moderate, but I'm not. I have a not so secret
love for Russ Feingold and Keith Olbermann. It's not essential that
we agree on all things political; what is essential is that we can
be equally respectful of each other. I don't necessarily think I'm
always right. But maybe alot of the time. Another important thing
to know about me is that good conversation is a requirement. I like
to talk. I like to listen. And I'm intelligent in a sexy kind of
way (I hope!). If we can't have a great conversation about lots of
different things, it's just not going to work. I'd say
conversational chemistry is as important as physical chemistry.
Which brings me to the next thing you should know: I'm not looking
for casual sex. I love sex, don't get me wrong, but I'm too old for
one night stands. But if we should meet and have chemistry (on more
than one level)- watch out!
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
I just graduated with my BA in liberal studies which means I have
no job qualifications whatsoever but am an excellent
conversationalist. What happens next in my life is up in the air.
Mostly, I want to find a job where I can make a difference and
actually enjoy what I do, and I'm in the position where I can
(almost) take my time to figure out what that job is.
Being a mom is my top priority, and that keeps me busy (and more
than a little crazed). I write a political blog for a local
magazine which is awesome because it gives me a place to be
opinionated. My muse can be a total greedy bitch which means I
spend alot of time writing mediocre poetry and wanting to
hide/share it depending on my mood. But my muse can also desert me
totally as she's done the last few months and leave me constantly
wanting to write something but without any real ability. I spend
alot of time using the delete key these days. Most often when my
muse likes me, I write poetry, but I also write erotica and I've
started a couple of novels that will probably remain unfinished.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Writing, baking, good conversation,
free therapy, laughing, research (I actually like to spend
hours doing research. It's the Virgo in me, I think), making lists
(again, I'm a Virgo. I can't help it), asking the big- and small-
questions, taking care of those I love, learning new things. There
are other, more fun things, that I have no intention of revealing
here.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
That's a good question. You should ask those people.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Music: There are so many. My all time favorite bands are the
Beatles and
REM, but I love so
many more. Amy
Winehouse; Indigo Girls; Cake; Finger Eleven; Paul Simon; Anna Nalick; Ani Difranco. Music is really
important in my life. My kids know the lyrics to some great songs
like "Cecilia," "I will survive" "Stick shifts and Safety Belts"
and "Mercedez Benz." There's often music on when dinner is cooking.
We have anthems for everything. The Juno soundtrack is one of my
current favorites, along with music I can sing along to.
Books: Books are harder because I love to read. I read fluff when
my brain is tired; I read political books, history books, chic lit,
and whatever else interests me. My favorite book of all time (thus
far) is Christopher Moore's Lamb: the Gospel according to Biff,
Christ's childhood pal. I like words, the way they fit together and
make something more than letters. Anything well-written will be
much loved by me. Unless it has a bad ending. I hate bad
endings.
The same is true for movies. I watch all kinds of movies. I love
comedies, dramas, romantic flicks, and documentaries. I can even be
convinced to watch action and sci-fi movies, but god, don't make me
watch a horror movie unless you want to be woken up ten times to
check for monsters in the night.
As for food, I love food but I'm a picky eater, so I'm a bit of a
pain in the ass about trying new things. I will try them, though,
but I might not like them! I love Italian food and Mexican food
most, but Chinese rates pretty high too. I have a terrible sweet
tooth, but I'm incredible in the kitchen, so it works out just
fine.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
My kids; my tribe; love; books; music; hope.
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
A lot of different things. Politics, homework, parenting, sex,
life, love, the pursuit of happiness.
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Um, I tend to be home on Friday night more than on Saturdays, so
I'm usually reading, watching a movie, doing homework, or some
other tedious crap.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I love interesting socks. I can rarely make myself wear plain white
ones. I like characters, holidays, stripes, plaids, etc. My
favorite socks are covered in frogs.
You should message me if Propose an edit
