I am geeky, funny, and dedicated.

My Self-Summary

I'm a Midwest transplant, and I've been living in LA for a little under a year. I work at a bookstore attached to a university of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Don't know what that means? Neither do I. My job is a little crazy (and do I ever have crazy customer stories), but I love it, and as of January I'll be full-time. I have great friends, a new apartment in Palms that I adore, and a first draft of my first novel that gives me nothing but grief. While I love books, and hope to be a published writer one of these days, I also love television, especially sci-fi and fantasy. If you can quote Firefly, know what TARDIS stands for, or can explain to me how you'd beat the Kobayshi Maru, we'll get along great.

What I’m doing with my life

Workin' hard for the money. My lovely, crazy bookstore job has helped me move from my old, sketchy apartment into a fabulous one in Palms with a great friend.

I'm also writing, usually several things at the same time. I have the attention span of a goldfish, so when a current project starts to bore me, I almost always have something else waiting in the wings to occupy my time. You can ask me about my book, but be prepared to listen to me laying out character arcs and backstory for at least half an hour. Don't say I didn't warn you!

I’m really good at

Pointless trivia. I can retain obscure knowledge and quotes from every television series and movie I've ever seen, but ask me to remember when my sister's birthday is and I'll draw a blank every time.

My degree is in journalism with a focus in copy editing, so I'm also great at nitpicky details and grammar. My biggest grammar pet peeve? The word "irregardless." It's not a word!

The first things people usually notice about me

My laugh. I'm loud. Unless I'm wearing my "Joss Whedon is My Master Now" t-shirt, and then that's usually what they comment on.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I love books when they come in a series, and my favorite ongoing book series is The Dresden Files. Besides Harry, my fave character is probably Bob.

I can't possibly pick a favorite movie, but I will say that my favorite recent movie has got to be Zombieland. My friends and I would yell "Rule 31!" whenever we climbed into the car for a few days after that. If you don't have a plan for the zombie apocalypse, you need to work on that. I'll let you in on ours if you ask nicely.

As for music, I like classic rock and country the most, but I like Jason Mraz and Sara Bareilles when I'm at work.

My favorite foods? Cheesecake. Scalloped potatoes. Barbequed chicken. My dad's venison bacon wraps.

The six things I could never do without

My laptop, my Blackberry, caffeine, my family, my friends. Wait, that's five. My job? Probably that, too.

I don't like coffee, but I'm hopelessly addicted to Pepsi and can't start my day without it.

I can't cope without my laptop because it is not only my connection to the internet, it is my stereo, my DVD player, my word processor, and my alarm clock.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

My characters, and the colorful ways in which I can kill them, or otherwise cause them pain. I am a vengeful God.

On a typical Friday night I am

Watching movies or playing games with my roommates, writing at Novel Cafe, going out to a movie, or just hanging out and having dinner with friends. I don't like clubs or giant gatherings, but a laid back bar with cheap beer is usually a good time. If you know of a place in LA that serves peanuts and lets you throw the shells on the floor, I would be eternally grateful.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I hate Catcher in the Rye. I think it's pretentious and overhyped. Haters to the left.

You should message me if

You want to talk about our shared worship of Joss Whedon, if you'd like somebody to go see terrible action movies with, or if you need someone to check over your essay for grammar and punctuation.
