I am peter, paul, and mary.
My Self-Summary
It's hard to say what sort of person i am - am I quiet, loud, kind,
thoughtful, loveable, nasty, deranged, intense, vacant... probably
a bit of everything. So lets avoid the issue and write some lists
of things I do:
My passions in life:
cycling mountain and road,
hockey of the field variety,
guitar mainly
classical at the moment,
japanese especially writing the
characters though i'm getting a bit rusty there, hiking and
climbing mountains (ones in scotland like Torridon and Assynt are
amazing, but also some high ones in the Alps, Japan (i climbed up
Mt Fuji from the bottom and back down in 13 hours solid), and South
America (my highest mountain yet at 5700m). I'm a very ropey
dancer, two left feet... but do do a bit of salsa type stuff. I
love
cinema and i'm
not the sort to worry about going on my own, which is a good thing
because most of my friends seem to be into trashy hollywood stuff.
My favorites of the past year in no particular order: Waltz with
Bashir, Let the Right One In, The Wrestler, Man on Wire, The Diving
Bell and the Butterfly, No Country for Old Men. I used to live in
Oxford and I miss the rowing. I can do stroke and bow side so if
you're need a spare man in a mixed team let me know.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm floating along at the moment...
Ok, I'm thinking about jacking it all in and going cycling (maybe
back to South America which is an amazing continent of contrasts
and scenery) or maybe to live in Holland. Holland is a lovely
place.
I’m really good at
Making people laugh when i try, or sometimes don't try. However
telling jokes really badly.
The first things people usually notice about me
Hair too long (except i just got it cut). Glasses because I just
got some new ones and they're way too striking.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
It's been a while since i read anything really amazing... need to
think a while on that. Ok, i'm back Prayer for Owen Meany,
Midnights Children, On Chesil Beach, The Reader, short stories by
Somerset Maugham, any book about climbing mountains and nearly
dying (or maybe a bit of death but not too much)
Movies as above plus Life is Beautiful, Love Letter (Shunji Iwai),
Passage to India, Monty Python. TV: bit of an Apprentice addict,
Green Wing, Flight of the Conchords, enjoyed watching Blood, Sweat,
and Takeaways recently.
Classical: lots of things by
Fernando Sor, Barrios, Aguado.
Modern:
Martin
Sexton,
Neil
Young,
Gotan
Project, David Rovics, The Killers,
Fat Freddy's Drop, big
etc... Strangely into German hip-hop at the moment.
Japanese:
Gackt,
Fukuyama
Masaharu, Dragon Ash, Kiroro, doing karaoke to any of them!
:)
Food: pizza! okonomiyaki (japanese cabbage omelette-type thing),
chocolate, cheese (a mature cheddar, or brie maybe), Malbec wine,
beer brewed by trappist monks, lavazza coffee, eels done the
japanese way with chargrilled with tea on top
The six things I could never do without
Classical guitar, a bike (one of 3 currently), chocolate, cheese,
coffee, karaoke.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
what i'm really doing with my life.
On a typical Friday night I am
Trying to persuade my friends to go out for drinks but increasingly
failing...
Sitting in the meadows twanging on my guitar if the suns out.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Nothing. Try reading my travelblog: there's a few chucklesome tales
there - www.travelblog.org/bloggers/nickthetrick
You should message me if
anything above appeals and you happen to live in edinburgh and
happen to want to meet up. Or just if you want to! :D
