My self-summary
I am one of those Japanese-Americans, but I dislike to caterogize myself ethnically and strive to think myself I enjoy learning languages, but whether I am actually good at acquiring them is questionable. In the end, I just like knowing and experiencing different cultures.

I'm pretty big on music in many dimensions. I've been playing the flute for 11 years and still strive to keep it as a serious hobby. Therefore, I have a pretty deep appreciation for classical music. I have a weak spot for Russian composers and have Shostakovich's 5th plastered all over my wall. I am involved in college radio and am a DJ and a music director. I try to go to shows whenever I can and am usually seen rocking out in my city of choice, Philly (speaking of Philly, I'm also a huge fan of the Flyers). I am obsessed with keeping my music library organized...but I do find the process rather therapeutic and satisfying.

Oh, and not going to lie, I enjoy playing video games. Mostly RPGs like Final Fantasy, Legend of Mana, Chrono Trigger, etc...I'm a pretty mean player for Tetris Attack. I recently got Planet Puzzle League and am up for trading friend codes.

Actually, to make this summary simple, I'm just a big huge dork in the core.

I am quirky, rolypoly, and adorkable
What I’m doing with my life
Rocking out and doing some scholarly business on the side.
I’m really good at
peeling oranges and saranwrapping remote controllers.
The first things people usually notice about me
My obviously Asian facial features? My miniscule stature? My rolypoly figure? You tell me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Un Chien Andalou. Any Brothers Quay or Svankmajer film. Tetsuo. Way too many Miyazaki anime. Millenium Actress. The Land Before Time. Fern Gully. High Fidelity. Trainspotting. Dr. Strangelove. Pillow Talk.

Classical - mostly things from Romantic era and on. Favorite composers are Bartok, Brahms, Hindemith, Poulenc, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Shostakovich. Did I tell you I love Russian composers?

Electronica - alot from Berlin, Detroit, and Paris. I also have a weakness for silly, sci-fi sounding electro with moogs, analogue synthesizers, theremins, circuit bending, and chiptunes.

...and that horrid indie genre. To save myself from sounding like a huge snob (which I unfortunately kinda am), here is my Top 5 Favorite Bands list la High Fidelity -- Pixies, Sonic Youth, Pavement, Teenage Fanclub, and Mission of Burma.

Being the daughter of a sushi chef, I'm a bit of a gourmand. I really do believe that eating the food is the first step of knowing the culture. I will literally try anything and everything. I guess the most daring one was the time when I went to Thailand and ate various insects and larvaes of some sort...wish, I could tell you what they were, but I couldn't understand Thai and just pointed out to the vendor which entomologic delight I wanted to taste. Yeah, bugs are actually pretty decent.
The six things I could never do without

1. Music - Keeps the momentum going.

2. An open mind - I don't want to miss out on anything.

3. Tolerance - I've been saved from much stress because I do have this to some degree. Can't imagine what kind of a mental wreck I would've been without it.

4. Ambition - I don't think I can live without working towards a goal, even if it's something menial like cleaning my room...and yes, that does take SOME ambition.

5. Optimism - I think I am a wee bit more pessimistic, but I do understand the need to be optimistic. A grim outlook on life can only take you so far.

6. An appreciation for the little things - If you're not light-hearted enough to enjoy life and find delight in the simple things it has to offer, I don't know how you're alive.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
the awesomeness that is teleportation.
On a typical Friday night I am
maybe having a movie and coffeehouse date. Maybe at the bars. Maybe hanging out with my friends and catching up. Maybe stealing American flags and other exterior decorations from people's lawns. Maybe dancing around a bonfire. Maybe watching innane Japanese programs with my parents. Maybe playing video games with my sister. Or maybe just having some time to myself.

In the end, I go to wherever that provides me the atmosphere that I need the most at the moment.
