My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
So, myself...well...
I watch a lot of movies. I go the the movies at least once a week. I decided to try and see 500 movies in theaters between my 25th and 30th birthday. Because why not?
I have an MFA in Fiction Writing. I want to write in as many different genres as possible.
I'm probably the most patient person in Philadelphia.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Well, I teach English Composition, Literature, Graphic Novel studies, and Writing at various colleges. I love it. I am also a published novelist.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Writing, cooking, and teaching (so I am told).
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
A lot of people seem to think I am intimidating. Well, they might have a point--I'm a big Italian guy with one of those stone like faces. Yeah, I admit it. But I promise, it only lasts for a second. Start talking to me for a few minutes, and you'll see I'm a very nice guy. I only look like I'm brooding. Like my friend V-I-P ( says, I'm only scary for the first 30 seconds.

My friend challenged me to only list five books and five movies. I failed (the ones in bold are the the top 5)...

Books:Heart of Darkness, As I Lay Dying, The Lord of the Rings, Pedro Paramo, Disgrace, Bailey's Cafe, The Book Thief, Snow Crash, Rise of Silas Lapham, Hunger Games Trilogy, Expiration Date, The Wheelman, City of Theives, Devil in the White City, Lost City of Z, The Tragedy of Arthur, World War Z, The Big Sleep, Red Harvest, X-Men: Messiah Complex, Messiah War, Second Coming, Batman: The Long Halloween, The Watchmen. I read a lot and don't limit myself to genres, but I really love Noir (Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, Duane Swierzcynski) and graphic novel (both superhero and non-superhero). But I could definitely talk about more. I'm currently reading Marvel: The Untold Story and Roma.

Movies: The Avengers and all of its movies, Cloud Atlas, Argo, Seven Psychopaths, The Fountain, Magnolia, Children of Men, City of God, Memento, Dark Knight trilogy, Black Swan, True Grit, Inception, The Fall, No Country for Old Men, Dead Poets Society, Gone Baby Gone, The Artist, M, Touch of Evil, Lord of the Rings, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Star Trek, Matrix, Amelie, The Muppets, X-Men, Garden State, Interstate 60, The Hangover, Hot Fuzz, Biutiful, Moonrise many more. Favorite directors: Christopher Nolan, Daren Aronofsky, and the Coen Brothers.

I love movies and I try to go to the movie theater as often as possible. So if you like film, we'll have a lot to talk about. And, with a lot of great movies coming out, it would be nice to have a pal to see them with.

TV: LOST, Community, Office, Daily Show, Breaking Bad, Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, The Daily Show, Firefly, Colbert Report, Once Upon a Time, Scrubs, 30 Rock, Game of Thrones, Chuck, Mad Men, Parks and Recreation, Arrow, Brooklyn 99....this makes me seem like a TV junkie, but I'm really not. I generally just binge watch from time to time.

Music: The Fratellis, TV on the Radio, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Hans Zimmer, Nina Simone, Kronos Quartet, Phillip Glass, the Section Quartet. I like pretty much all genres and will give everything a chance. My Ipod has everything from Method Man to Rachmaninoff.

Food: Italian by default (what I cook and what I am--and I am not the Jersey Shore kind. Or the Soprano kind)
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
A way to write
Something to read (Comics or Books)
My job (which I love)
My sister
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How to succeed. What my future will look like. I am a very ambitious person and always looking to bring my career to the next stage. But I still make time to relax and do simple things, like update my profile on OKCupid.

What movie should I watch while grading essays.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Well, it's usually one of three things:

At the movies
At the Gym
At home (writing, reading, grading, watching tv, watching movies)

may or may not include friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I am trying to be healthier, but it's moving slower than I'd like.

...or want to condemn me for making comics "legitimate" because of the graphic novel classes I teach. (It's happened once)
