My self-summary
Well, I'm not sure what to put here. I was born in California but I've also lived in Washington, and I live in Arizona now. I'd like to return to the northwest permanently someday. I miss the snow, and I can't stand the sun here. I'm not sure what else you want to know about me that isn't in the other sections of the profile....but if there is something, you could message me and ask? :)
What I’m doing with my life
I just graduated last May from the University of Arizona with my bachelor's of science in both mathematics and computer science. Currently, I work on the LROC (Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera) team on Arizona State University's Tempe campus. I write/maintain software used for acquiring and analyzing images taken by a high-resolution camera in Lunar orbit. Yeah, I like my job all right. ;)
I’m really good at
I'm very good with pretty much anything technical. Computers, mathematics. As you can see from reading my profile, ive lern'd 2 English reel goodly. As you can see from that last sentence, I'm also good at making horrible jokes. I'm good at various other things but I don't identify with too many of them, and nothing strikes me right off the bat as something I really ought to write here.
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably my hobo beard. In the winter, maybe the fact that I'm wearing a T-shirt and shorts even though it's below 50 degrees.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I'm not really a huge reader, but I love The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion by Tolkien. I also love A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. There are some other books I like to read, but given that I'm not much of a bookworm, nothing else comes to mind as a "favorite."

Movies: I really enjoy a lot of movies, ranging from upbeat and lightweight to dark and harrowing. Generally I enjoy a really well-done drama, or sometimes fantasy/sci-fi if there's a meaningful story arc and character development. I'm very picky about comedy but there are comedies out there that appeal to me, they're just hard to find. I'll also give anything unusually artistic a try. Here are some of my favorites from across the board and in no particular order:

Fantasia
The Silence of the Lambs
The Green Mile
Back to the Future
The Neverending Story
Labyrinth
There Will Be Blood
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Star Trek: Generations
Star Trek: First Contact
Star Wars
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Spirited Away
Donnie Darko
Pan's Labyrinth
The Sixth Sense
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Monty Python and the Holy Grail

I hardly watch any TV at all, and as such I have very few "favorite" shows...

Frasier
Everybody Loves Raymond
Roseanne
Star Trek: The Next Generation
The Twilight Zone (original)

I'm a huge music junkie, and I can't stand anything I find uninspired and meaningless, which comprises the vast majority of popular music. I lean towards anything I can see real meaning/emotion/poetry/thought in, or that takes true songwriting talent and musicianship. Often I'm listening to progressive rock or metal, but I also enjoy some good folk rock with poetic lyrics, indie pop with interesting sounds, etc. Here are some of my favorite artists:

The Moody Blues
King Crimson
Dream Theater
Pain of Salvation
Ulver
Rush
Sigur Ros
The Smashing Pumpkins (from the 90's, not this so-called "reunion" garbage)
Nightwish
Modest Mouse
Dornenreich
Trans-Siberian Orchestra
System of a Down
Silversun Pickups
Live
Boards of Canada
Enya
Devin Townsend
Buckethead
Flobots
Pinback
Led Zeppelin
Coldplay
Bjork
The Sugarcubes
Ayreon

As far as food, I'm vegetarian (as I don't care to support the hideously inhumane practices of slaughterhouses) but other than meat I'll eat just about anything. I really love Thai and Indian foods, and also have a fondness for Italian.
The six things I could never do without
1) Friends and family!
2) My computer
3) Something new to learn
4) Music (to listen to....)
5) Crucial organs like my heart and brain
6) My beard! (I've tried)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Lots of things. This is too complicated a question to answer.
On a typical Friday night I am
A lot of the time I'm just relaxing at home, but sometimes I will spend time somewhere else with family/friends...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have Crohn's disease. It isn't fun and doesn't do a lot for my self-worth. On the bright side, it's pretty well controlled right now. :)
