My name is Adam, and I spent a lot of time trying to think of a clever username. I'm in love with art. Language is everything to me. I'm a very critical thinker. I have many passions that run very deeply and if I believe in something I will fight both for it and about it. I'm very liberal and I argue a little bit too much for my own good. I'm trying to make myself listen to classical music more. I will eat almost anything you put on a plate for me. I once got third in a spelling bee at a community college. I am curious.

I'm working as a canvasser for Working America doing impactful, tangible good in the world. It's the most important work I've ever done. I love it.

Talking. Get me going on something that I care about and it'll be hard to get me to stop. But even more than that, I love listening. I love digging in to what another person is saying. When I say you can tell me anything, I mean it. Also, Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. I'm not to be trifled with on that front.

I have heard that I:
-Have tremendously blue eyes.
-Tend to talk too fast and mumble a bit.
-Use big words.
-Don't appear quite as tall as I should because I slouch a bit and carry tension in my shoulders.
-Fidget.
-Have a tendency to mimic unintentionally.
-Am a skinny, skinny boy.

Okay, now we're talking. I'll have to start with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This is the show that shaped my conception of what good art is probably more than any other. Firefly was great, too. I love me some Whedon, is what I'm saying. There's Mad Men, of course, and Breaking Bad. As far as comedy: 30 Rock, The Office, Arrested Development, Louie, King of the Hill, Scrubs, Community, Parks and Recreation, Happy Endings, Malcolm in the Middle, Cheers. Lost was an amazing experience. Friday Night Lights is one of the most rewarding experiences I've had with a television show and don't you dare laugh at me for crying at the finale. I'm presently working on Game of Thrones.. No, I haven't seen all of The Wire. Yes, I am aware that I bring shame upon my father's house.

Memento is a movie that really matters to me. Children of Men has to go on the all-time list. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, absolutely. (500) Days of Summer: yes. Paul Thomas Anderson is my favorite director, with Punch-Drunk Love being my favorite of his. Cool Hand Luke is unequivocally a movie that matters as well as being a Movie That Matters. Paul Newman might be my favorite American movie star. I'm not immune to the charms of Jackass but I get it if you are. Movies I could turn on and enjoy at nearly any time include: 10 Things I Hate About You, The Bourne Supremacy, 13 Going On 30, A Few Good Men, Good Will Hunting.

A few books that matter to me for various reasons: The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, Lord of the Flies, The Giver, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Cloud Atlas, Life of Pi, Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs. I have a firm connection to Hamlet that I don't think will ever go away. There isn't a number high enough for the amount of books I keep intending to read and don't get around to.

Bands I currently listen to: Radiohead, Explosions in the Sky, Dawes, The Walkmen, Neutral Milk Hotel, Al Green, Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Wilco, Robyn, The Cure, Passion Pit, Beck.

-A journal and pen. I spend way too much time analyzing and processing my thoughts to be well without the capacity to write. I have to write. In my head I am always, always writing.
-My parents, who have done simply tremendous things for me.
-The ability to perform, because performance is an avenue to help me understand myself through others.
-Star Wars, because so much of what I now love is predicated upon it.
-The recurring hope that when I pick up my guitar this time I will finally be good.
-That feeling you get when you're trying to remember the name of that actor who was in that one thing and you know that you know it but you can't get your mind around it, so you let it settle into a sub-layer of your thinking, and then later out of nowhere you remember it and you're like, "OF COURSE!"

Thinking, the nature of existence, how to make myself a better person in the context of my cis-male/white/heterosexual/able-bodied privilege, where I'm going, what it all means, if I'm thinking too hard.

At work. But that isn't the point of the question. I don't have an extensive nightlife. That doesn't mean I don't get excited to go out, I'm just not great about seeking adventures on my own and tend to need a little push in that direction.

I'm all caught up on Game of Thrones and I sort of don't know what to do with my life.

You'd like to talk about how most people think of Superman in terms of two concurrent identities, when really he has at least three. Or you want to listen to bluegrass and drink whiskey. Or you want to talk about the proliferation of the Vulcan as an archetype in American fiction. Or maybe you learned a really interesting word today and would like to share it with me!
