I am low tech, meandering, and low frequency.
My Self-Summary
Hmmm, where to start...
I'm fairly shy, which I hide by being a sarcastic smart-ass. There
is this shirt that the webcomic XKCD has that says "I'm shy, not
antisocial (you can talk to me!)" that I feel like I need, but I
doubt it'd do me any good. I'm very introverted, but I've found my
ways to overcome it. I do have to spend a certain amount of time by
myself to regain my energy though. And I'm not a big fan of being
in places with a whole lot of people in close proximity to me.
Makes going to clubs a little hard. And so, I stay home or hang out
in small groups.
Music is my life. I play bass and guitar, sorta play the drums, and
I'm good at making squawky sounds on keyboards. I worked as a sound
engineer and designer for 9 years. Still do work as both
occasionally. I'm currently playing bass in an alternative band,
though some would term it more power pop. I'd say we have more punk
influences than anything, but then again, I view Husker Du as
punk.
I'm a vegetarian who keeps debating taking the leap of going vegan.
I get crap all the time from my family and the people I work with.
Most of them have earned it. Those who haven't, well, they learn
fast. I don't eat meat for my own reasons. I'm not necessarily an
animal rights crusader, but I think we can get by without eating
them or abusing them or using them to test out things before we use
them on ourselves.
I'm a reader. I don't really watch much TV, though as I've found
myself with too much free time of late, I've been watching various
TV shows on DVD. So much nicer without the commercials. Love me
some NCIS and The IT Crowd. I'm always up for suggestions of new
shows to pick up on DVD.
I'm incredibly liberal. To the point where I'm almost an anarchist.
I realize that human nature means that it would never work as a
viable system, but it's fun to dream. There are two issues that I
have incredibly strong feelings on. I feel that no one should have
the right to outlaw what a woman can do with her body. I feel that
every human should have the right to marry whomever they choose.
So, to recap... pro-choice and completely for gay marriage. This
may be off putting, but it's the way I am.
I have both a BS in networking and a full time job (though
definitely not in the field). I also have my own car. The one
strike against me... I live with my parents. When I moved back from
Rochester, NY a few years ago, I needed a place to live and they
needed help around the house. The same applies today, as I've
worked as an electrician, carpenter, painter... pretty much
anything in construction you can think of, I've done it. Thus, I
help them, as my father (who taught me most of it) is getting older
and isn't as... spry as he once was (though try and convince him of
that and you better watch out). My family is important to me. To
quote one of my new favorite bands Pedals on Our Pirate Ships,
"I'll treat my friends like family/I'll treat my family like they
were ALL THAT I HAD". Because in the end, they are all that you
have.
I wrote this while listening to the Eels' "Novocaine for the Soul".
That should tell you something as well.
I'm not a fan of pants. Given the chance, I'd wear nothing but
kilts and other non-bifurcated garments. DOWN WITH TROUSER
TYRANNY!!!
What I’m doing with my life
Working my way up the ladder at one of the cooler companies I've
ever worked for. Also, playing in a band and trying to get a
recording studio built. Other than that: reading a lot, writing
songs, and working more than any human should...
I’m really good at
being a shoulder to cry on. Being chivalrous. Having two left feet.
Mixing sound. being the quiet one.
The first things people usually notice about me
My size. I'm a very large guy. Also, the fact that I have a shaved
head and a beard. Possibly the tattoo on my left arm.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: anything by
Terry Pratchett, Fear and
Loathing in Las Vegas, High Fidelity, Fight Club,
the Dresden Files, the
Elenium
Movies: Fight Club,
High Fidelity, Fear and Loathing
in Las Vegas, Nightmare Before Christmas, Inglorious Basterds,
Snatch, Boondock Saints
Music: Van Halen, Frank Turner,
Strike Anywhere, Nine Inch
Nails,
Gaslight Anthem,
the Ramones, the
Misfits,
Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys,
Silversun Pickups,
Pansy Division, Authority Zero,
Bob Marley, Rancid, NoFX, Smokey Robinson,
Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin,
Miles Davis,
Latterman,
Enigma, Appleseed Cast,
Ray LaMontagne, The Rocky
Horror Punk Rock Show, Black Flag, The Black Keys, Foo Fighters,
Pedals On Our Pirate
Ships, local Richmond punk and alternative
Also, as far as music goes, of late I've found myself more and more
loving the genres of Rockabilly and Psychobilly. Maybe I'll grow a
pompadour and buy a string bass. It'd be fun. Yeah!
Food: anything vegetarian/vegan and asian influenced. Also, big fan
of those three colors noodles. You know, the green, orange, and
yellow ones? Those things are awesome with butter, maybe a little
cheddar and some peas!
The six things I could never do without
my hearing, apples, the feel of warm southern rain, the smell of
honeysuckle, friends, family
I spend a lot of time thinking about
what to do next, why I over think things, how to fix my karma, why
the fact that I am a nice guy and still, to a certain extent, have
slightly old fashioned views on how to treat a woman seems to piss
some people off. What do you want? I was raised by an old fashioned
guy and was raised in the south.
Also think about when and where I'm going to get my next tattoo.
Why people want to call them "tats". I find "ink" acceptable, but
may throw something at you for calling them tats...
On a typical Friday night I am
working, playing a show, or at home reading (I'm a boring person,
what can I say?)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I'm fairly certain that I'm afraid of silence. In fact, to the
point where I have to have music playing or something going all the
time. Even while sleeping.
You should message me if
You want to chat, get to know each other. If you are looking for a
new friend or a hopeless romantic or you have a good suggestions
for a TV show to pick up on DVD.
Especially send me a message if any or all of those apply to you
and you can properly answer the following question:
Who would win in a wrestling match, Lemmy or God?
But really. Just message me. It'll be good times. And you should
also ask me out on a date or to hang out or something... yeah!
