I am goofy, amorous, and philosophical.
My Self-Summary
To be honest, I've always found it hard to write self-descriptions
without sounding emotionless, trite, or narcissistic, but here goes
nothin'.
I'm an honest, blunt man, which isn't to say I don't have tact,
just that I find that life is often much simpler without it. This
does mean that I occasionally bludgeon my way through social
situations, but it also means that I'm trustworthy and can be
counted upon to speak my mind.
That being said, I'm more than a bit of a goofball, with an
offbeat, sarcastic sense of humor and a fairly constant wry smile.
I've been told that I usually look like I'm mulling over some
private joke. If it wasn't for my sense of humor, I would almost
certainly have perished years ago. Laughter may not be the medicine
(it doesn't cure cancer, after all), but it worked for Patch Adams
and sometimes that one little smile from a stranger can get you
through the day.
I'm often scolded for being "too nice". I'm working very hard at
not being a doormat.
I'm a romantic at heart. I may have transformed from the naive,
idealistic youth I was half a decade ago into a cynical, jaded man,
but no matter what I do, the little things always seem to get to
me. Romantic comedies, candles, stories about knights and damsels,
seeing a couple in public just staring at each other lovingly... no
matter what I do, the ol' heartstrings just keep playing their
lonely, but hopeful tune.
And now on to the big question that few ask up-front: How important
is sex? Sex is important, enjoyable, and necessary both for a
successful relationship and the continuation of the species. All
that being said, while I'm not against a casual sexual relationship
right now, I'm really looking for something deeper and long-term.
Once I find that, the casual sex is gone. Also, I consider foreplay
and snuggling more important than sex. Sex is just a bunch of
thrusting and moaning. Foreplay is an art form. :)
Fair enough?
What I’m doing with my life
I just got out of the Navy in October 2009. After that, I moved out
to Oahu and will begin working on obtaining a degree in education
which will eventually allow me to be a
teacher. Perhaps someday in the distant
future, I will return to college to earn a degree that will allow
me to earn a living practicing my true passion:
psychology.
I’m really good at
I'm not a particularly quick thinker, so saying I'm witty isn't
entirely accurate, but I do believe myself to be an engaging
conversationalist.
In the past, I was quite the poet, penning more than a few poems,
songs, and short stories. Having perused them over the years, I've
discovered that while some were absolutely terrible, there may have
been a jewel or two among them.
Before I joined the Navy, I was a fairly avid cyclist and I plan to
pick
cycling up
again once I get a chance to settle down in one place.
I'm a
philosopher and psychologist at
heart. I'm constantly analyzing the world at large and trying to
figure it out. Included in this is my very strong tendency to dwell
on the different aspects of human nature, which is an incredibly
interesting topic. Essential to understanding human nature is
religion, which I thoroughly enjoy picking apart. I'm not
religious, and I enjoy analyzing religion in general, so if that
offends you, I hope you enjoy your life, but it won't be with me.
The first things people usually notice about me
I've never really been told what people first notice about me. I
guess that's something you'll have to discover for yourself. :)
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books:
"Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card; the entire "Discworld" series
by Terry Pratchett; "Patriot Games" by Tom Clancy; the "Sword of
Shannara" series by Terry Brooks.
Movies:
Ace Ventura (both of them); City Slickers (again, both of them);
The Princess Bride; When Harry Met Sally; George of the Jungle;
Crimson Tide; Down Periscope; Definitely, Maybe.
Music:
Mostly anything that isn't rap or really heavy metal. Specifically,
I love classic and soft rock. Everything from America, Elton John,
Billy Joel, and Chicago to AC/DC and Def Leppard.
Food:
Yes. :) There are several exceptions, however. The big ones are
lettuce and onions. *shrug* Don't ask me why; I just don't like
'em.
The six things I could never do without
1) My sense of humor
2) A good book
3) Intelligent conversation
4) Seeing the stars at night
5) Shiny things
6) Fruit
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The nature of life, the universe, and everything. I do, however,
tend to focus many of my ruminations on the human condition.
On a typical Friday night I am
...not doing anything of note.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
There are very few things I'm *not* willing to admit. Ask me
anything and you're likely to get a straightforward answer.
You should message me if
...you put any stock in
serendipity.
