My self-summary
I've been in Berlin for about four years now. People always seem to assume that American minorities living overseas must be in the military. While I think military service is a wonderful thing, I'm not cut out for it.

I'm a Tampa native, and fully devoted Bucs fan! Yeah, I know we're horrible right about now, but I still love my team! When I'm not watching football, I can usually be found reading (Classic Lit, historic, & fantasy), spending time with friends, or playing games (card, board, bowling, Madden, Wii, Guitar Hero, dominoes, etc.). I'm the type of person that functions well in a professional setting, but is always on the lookout for something to laugh at.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a career teacher. I taught back home (Florida) for a few years, but then decided to try my hand at teaching overseas. After two and a half years in South Korea, I'm now in Germany.
I’m really good at
Thinking. Lol, I know that's a lame answer, but it's true! My mind is constantly turning over anything and everything I come in contact with. This includes everything from the separation of church and state on the issue of marriage, to why Gargamel tried to catch Smurfs when he had the ability to make them himself (he made Smurfette!).

As a by-product of my constant thinking, I suppose I'm a passable source of random information and new perspectives on problems.
The first things people usually notice about me
I suppose the first thing noticed about me is my mixed ancestry. People are always trying to figure out what I am. To spare you the agony ;-) of wondering as well, I'm half black and half white.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Classic Literature, Historical Fiction, Historical Non-Fiction, Fantasy
To be more specific, I love nearly anything by Louisa May Allcott (classic lit) or Piers Anthony (Fantasy). One of my top picks for historical fiction would be "The Devil's Arithmetic" by Jane Yolen. Anti-utopias such as "Brave New World" and "The Giver" are great reads too. An excellent book that I recommend to nearly everyone I encounter is "The Eight" by Katherine Neville. For all of you who liked "The Da Vinci Code", I found the plot to be more engaging, though it definitely dates itself as being a product of the 70s. "The Eight" partially takes place in the 70s, and partially in the 1790s. The story is about a 200 year search for... well, for something (don't want to ruin it!) It involves, history, science, music, astrology, mystery, alchemy, chess, and about a dozen historical figures. There's even a bit of violence and romance tossed in too!

I know I talked a ton about books, but I LOVE reading. I'll be brief with the rest.

TV Shows: NFL, Glee, RuPaul's Drag Race, So You Think You Can Dance, the History Channel, home shows.

Music: Nearly anything but Techno

Food: Love seafood (except squid & octopus), Korean, Japanese, Soul Food -- I'll try most other things though
The six things I could never do without
1. Contact with my mom
2. Books
3. Laughter
4. Music
5. Intelligent Conversation
6. Great Food
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I inadvertently answered this one above. I think about all kinds of stuff, most of it completely pointless. I suppose if I have to choose one thing that I think about more than anything else, it would be work; lesson ideas, struggling students, curriculum improvements, etc.
On a typical Friday night I am
at home. I'm not into clubs and bars which doesn't mesh well with Berlin's pub culture. When in the states, I prefer impromptu family gatherings such as a cook-out at an uncle's house, fish fry at an aunt's, or bowling with my cousins. Pretty much anything where I can laugh is good for me.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
If I express something private on a public forum such as this, then it'd no longer be private.

But I'll humor you. :-)

While I generally mask it well, I'm a bit on the sensitive side.
