My self-summary
I like U2 but not Bono. I like the Smiths but can't stand Morrissey. So I guess I'm a man at war with himself.
What I’m doing with my life
I do some freelance writing and have a couple projects in the works (First novel just completed, hard at work on the second). Hoping to do more editing/music journalism in the future, but in the meantime, I have a rather boring "real person" job. It is my firm belief that people in the arts shouldn't have to pay mortgages. Sadly, this rule does not apply to me, nor does it exist. Weekends are usually spent scouring bookshops, guzzling coffee, and riding my bike/ running. The trails around here are awesome.
I’m really good at
Tons of stuff, but I procrastinate so much its hard to narrow down. Writing, for sure. Oh, music and history facts, too. If you need information on obscure battles from the 18th century, I'm your man. I'm a wealth of useless knowledge, and if you need a partner for bar trivia, I'm all over it.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'd like to say my rugged good looks, but probably my social awkwardness.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books:
I love stuff by Tom Robbins, Haruki Murakami (my all-time favorite), Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Raymond Chandler, and Mario Vargas Llosa.

Some favorites: One Hundred Years of Solitude, Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, Sputnik Sweetheart, Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates, West of Rome, Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter.

I buy so many books its becoming a problem. My house is starting to look like a Barnes and Noble. I also have a strange obsession with Victorian novels. Wuthering Heights is my jam. Middlemarch? For sure.

Movies: Princess Bride, Wet Hot American Summer.
Also, anything by Woody Allen, Eric Rohmer, or Richard Linklater is all right by me.

Music:
Beach Boys (Brian Wilson is a god), Beatles (McCartney, also a god), Lindsey Buckingham, Pixies, the Bats, the Stone Roses, the Sundays, Neil Finn. Any artist signed to Flying Nun. I have a very, very particular soft spot for New Zealand bands.

Tv shows: Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development, Seinfeld, Portlandia, Twin Peaks

I spend a lot of time thinking about
How happy I'll be when the Republican party finally collapses
On a typical Friday night I am
Composing symphonies. Either that or out. Or reading. Or sleeping.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Though I've never played, I think D&D would be incredibly fun.
