I am guitar-rockin', super-smart, and wacky.
My Self-Summary
Hi there. I'll start with a quick stream-of-consciousness about
myself:
I'm a free-thinking, educated, sarcastic, funny,
IQ-in-the-stratosphere kind of guy. I'm not shy about being a
Libertarian or an atheist.
Part of my own personal growth and spiritual development concerns
becoming more aware of the moment and the subtle (and sometimes
not-so-subtle) details of what's going on around me. Friends often
describe me as a Nutty Professor type, because I can make esoteric
references to 18th century French literature or give a rambling
lecture about the Second Law of Thermodynamics, but sometimes have
a hard time getting out of a building because I'm pulling on a door
marked "PUSH."
I used to say, "I like kids about as much as your average black guy
likes the Klan," but in reality, I really do like them. It's just
the parents and how they raise them I often object to.
I read three newspapers a day and keep a close eye on what's going
on in this would the 6.4 billion of us mutually inhabit.
Career-wise, I've made my living at various times as a journalist,
musician, editor, but mostly as an entrepreneur. Last year, I sold
the company I'd been running for half-a-decade, and started a new
business, working with lower-income families who are trying to
become homeowners via various government programs, but can't
qualify due to credit issues (mostly, it's from medical bills and a
lack of insurance). I help "rehabilitate" their credit, fight the
collection agencies, and help them qualify for a loan. It's by far
the most rewarding thing I've ever done in my 36 years experience
as a professional human being. It's something I'd literally do for
free (and have), but yet, I get paid for it. It really is work that
I love.
I love to travel and see the world. I've been a lot of places, but
that's the cool thing about living on the planet earth-- there's
always more to explore. I'm amazed by the number of people I've met
who rarely if ever venture much past their ZIP code. I realize that
it's not always feasible for everyone, but I wish more people would
make it a priority in their lives to explore this beautiful
planet.
I love animals, and I've got three adorable rabbits, the largest of
which is 22 pounds.
I've got more drive and ambition than... hmmm. I'll have to think
of a really cool metaphor and get back to you on that. But it's
like Salvador Dali once said... "When I was 3, I wanted to be a
cook. When I was 6, I wanted to be Napoleon. And since then, my
ambitions have only grown."
Hope to hear from you soon.
What I’m doing with my life
Evolving.
I'm traveling quite a bit right now, and hopefully will be doing
that in the future as well. I've been as far north as Fairbanks,
Alaska and as far south as Key West in the last six months. Coming
soon-- the east and west!
I’m really good at
Making esoteric references to obscure literature and politics. I'm
good at knowledge. It's rare that I have to pay for drinks when the
bar's having a trivia contest ;-) I'm good at coming up with ideas.
I'm a good businessman. I'm a rockin' guitarist. I'm a good writer
and communicator in general.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I'm drooling? I don't know, depends on the situation. I
suppose that I'm very outgoing and not shy.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I don't read a ton of books, but I do read several newspapers a
day, and I read a lot of magazines. The books I do read tend to be
non-fiction, and either biographies or about history or
science.
Movies... all depends. I like movies that really make you think
(e.g. "Primer"), and I also like ones that don't make you think at
all (e.g. "Airplane!). The ones that fall in the middle of those
two ends, I tend to not always be real into.
Music... hmm. I'm a long-haired white kid from the suburbs growing
up in the 80s, so, of course, metal up your ass! man. I like a lot
of different styles and artists. I like music with intelligence and
biting wit, like Frank Zappa or Warren Zevon. I like music that
really pushes the borders-- Miles Davis was 10x more extreme than
most any band billing themselves as "extreme" these days.
Food, hmm. I love a good steak. My favorite place to eat in the
known universe (so far) is Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa. Ooooh man. I
like Thai, Indian, Japanese, etc.

The six things I could never do without
1) New York Times 2) Starbucks 3) The number 3 4) travel 5)
adventure 6) my pet rabbits 7) Not following the rules
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Whatever I'm reading about, usually. Travel, adventure, and the
like. I'm also curious about how the universe works, despite our
species extreme inability to understand it.
On a typical Friday night I am
Recovering from the week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
There's really nothing that I try to hide. It's not like I'm a
total open book, and here's my medical charts (ooooh lookie there,
it's my spleen!), but you get the idea. Oooh fine, something
interesting. OK, I sleep with a stuffed grey rabbit at night.
