I am funny, hungry, and geeky.
My Self-Summary
I'm a pretty shy guy, but a good one. Looking for someone who
shares a few of my interests and doesn't mind a geek.
I've lived in London for about 2 1/2 years having moved here after
getting a job, before that I was enjoying the student life. I'm a
big fan of rock and metal music, but so far I've been unsuccessful
in my attempts to being an amazig guitarist.
For someone who hasn't read many comics, I know a suprising amount
about them. This is probably because I work for a company that both
publishes and sells them. That said, the ones I have read
(Watchmen, Batman: Hush) I really enjoyed.
I'm a big fan of
Ultimate Frisbee, which I've
played since I was at school (so I should probably be better at it
really...), there are loads of teams in London so it's been great
for that.
What I’m doing with my life
Wondering where to go for my next holiday and successfully losing
weight and getting fitter and healthier after a bout of laziness.
Also getting interested in photography, so looking for inspiration
for that as well. Trying to figure out how to combine my career in
web development with my desire to do something altruistic.
Thinking about taking snowboarding lessons and getting into rock
climbing.
The first things people usually notice about me
My appearance, I'd imagine. That's probably not a helpful answer
though, so I guess I most often get compliments about my
eyes.
I'm quite a shy person, in the way that some people tend to be -
fun and relaxed after a while but nervous and guarded around new
people.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books:
- Science fiction (old and new)
- Stories about dystopian societies
- I really enjoyed "Homicide" by David Simon
- I am ashamed to admit I enjoy Dan Brown's books despite the fact
that they all have the same plot and characters.
-
Discworld
Novels, though not so much lately
- R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt novels, I'm a sucker for exciting
swordfights and the little essays between each part of the books
are often very thought-provoking.
- I'm slowly working through a backlist of books I've been told I
should read.
Movies:
- I like big budget / low intelligence stuff. You know, Pirates of
the Caribbean, Transformers, Armageddon, Day After Tommorrow
- I also really enjoy those offbeat drama films where the main
story is about the fact that the main character is suffering from
some mental condition.
Garden State, Numb,
Birds Of America
and Rachel Getting Married would be good examples
- I don't really seek out those witty gangster films though I do
tend to enjoy them when I see them. I prefer imperfect/broken (see
above) characters to witty dialogue.
- Loved
Shawshank Redemption
- I will frequently say that
Terminator 2 is my favourite film,
there's something optimistic about the ending, which is ruined by
the insistence on making sequels.
- Comic book movies like Spider-man, X-Men, Batman, Superman etc.
Kind of curious to see what they do with the Flash and Green
Lantern.
Television:
-
House,
Heroes,
30 Rock,
How I Met Your Mother,
Bones,
Family Guy,
Futurama,
Firefly,
Dexter,
The Wire,
True Blood,
Californication,
Castle,
Buffy,
Stargate SG-1,
Stargate Atlantis,
Stargate
Universe,
QI,
Battlestar Galactica,
Sanctuary,
Numb3rs,
The Mentalist,
Lie To Me,
Castle,
Dollhouse,
Doctor Who
Music:
- Some modern indie rock, the more mainstream stuff though
- Symphonic and Melodic Metal (
Nightwish,
Sonata Arctica etc)
- Progressive Rock/Metal, there's something strangely fulfilling
about those extended instrumentals...
Dream Theater and
Vision Divine would be my
main examples.
- A wonderfully shameful selection of power ballads and cheesy pop
songs.
The six things I could never do without
Hard to say, I tend to bounce around between a number of hobbies.
But...
- Food
- Cake (deserves to be distinguished from food)
- Frisbees
- Music
- Film/TV
- My friends
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I think a lot about the future, both mine and in general. Things
like society and where it's headed (I don't necessarily think it's
all bad!), I'm big on thinking so I'll usually overthink any topic
that someone happens to bring up.
On a typical Friday night I am
I would say going out with work people, but that seems to have died
down a bit with this recession thing. So at the moment I'm either
catching up on some television, watching a film or seeing friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I have The Lion King on DVD, no other Disney movies, just The Lion
King. And I'm a big fan of sci fi.
You should message me if
You like people with quirky ways of looking at things and don't
mind someone who indulges in their geeky side (frequently, and
often inappropriately).
