I am inquisitive, over-educated, and playful.

My Self-Summary

I like to read. I watch entirely too much tv. I exercise enough to feel good and still fit in my jeans while eating what I want. I like to watch movies in the theater, but I never go alone. I'm from Texas, so I love barbecue, college football, and am sometimes a little brash. Hamburgers are tasty, but they aren't barbecue. I am a staunch liberal. I love to bake, but don't really like to cook. I sometimes ask inappropriate questions, but I try not to. I like to speculate about who, what, when, where, why and how. I love friendly animals. I like to hang out with friends. I'm more a coffee-shop person than a bar person, even though I don't drink much caffeine, because I'd rather sit and talk than stand and yell over loud music. Plus, I'd rather have a piece of cake than a beer.

What I’m doing with my life

You know, I'm not really sure. Right now, I'm trying to get my footing. I just spent the last entirely-too-long finishing my PhD. I got a job, moved out here and am trying to figure out what it's like to work for a living, outside the cozy confines of the ivory tower.

I’m really good at

Asking questions
Completely missing or misunderstanding California road signs. I'm working on this one.

The first things people usually notice about me

Even though I ask people a lot of questions, I've never asked this... maybe that I'm amazingly pale. My family calls it a computer tan.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: most of the stuff by Kurt Vonnegut (fave: Mother Night), Neal Stephenson (fave: Diamond Age), Connie Willis (fave: Bellwether), and Neil Gaiman (fave: American Gods); The Curious Incident of the Dog in Night-time; Catch-22

Movies: In general, I like comedies.
I don't know what my favorite movie is, however, the ones that I can watch multiple times are the Bourne and Harry Potter movies.

Food: I like to eat most genres, but the foods that I can almost always eat are pizza and chocolate cake.

The six things I could never do without

I figure they don't want Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs listed. So, assuming I at least have the bottom layer, and changing "could never do without" to "would prefer not to do without" let's go with:
- Sunshine (strange for someone who is so pale and doesn't like to be in the direct sun, I know)
- Good reading material/ interesting podcasts/ games that require some thought
- Chocolate
- A cozy place to read/ sleep/ ponder/ daydream
- Someone with whom to have a good conversation (clearly, I can live without this, since my cat, though friendly, is not so good with the English. Same goes for all the dogs I have met.)
- Good shopping options. Whether it's food or handbags, I like choice and quality.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Why something is happening or is the way it is.

On a typical Friday night I am

relaxing or hanging out with friends. I'll be honest: my Friday evenings often start with a nap. I'm more interesting on Saturdays and Sundays.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm normally too self-conscious to dance.

You should message me if

you like my profile, random speculation, and good conversation. If your message is basically about nothing besides my picture, it will get summarily deleted. (I feel like this should be obvious, but it apparently is not).
