verbose, tall, and geeky

My self-summary Propose an edit

Let me start by saying, "um......I dunno...." :)

But a summary of me.... well, I'm a huge geek. I like computers, books, trivia, video games, the internet, science fiction, and pretty much all media (music, tv, movies, etc). That said, I'm not a cave troll that lives in my parents basement either. I even go out on a semi-regular basis, hold down a full time job, go to school, etc. All that stuff the "normals" do.

So, geekiness aside, I'm much like many other people. I enjoy being entertained, good company, learning new things, and meeting new people. (Even if I'm not the best at introducing myself.) I feel pretty comfortable in most situations - though I'm more of a people watcher/wallflower than the one being the center of attention. But put me in the back woods, a fancy dinner, or any place in between and as long as the company is good, I'm probably enjoying myself.

But.... what sets me apart? Well, I consider myself intelligent for one. And despite the fact that everybody says that, and I have no degrees or anything to prove my statement, I know that I can hold my own in (at least keep up with) all but the most arcane of conversations, and depending on the subject even those conversations where an outsider thinks you're speaking an alien tongue. I'm emotionally aggressive at times, passionately defending those things I feel are important at the time - even if I realize later that they aren't. But, on the other hand, I also like to think of myself as a rather accepting person. Disagreement doesn't automatically lead to an inability to converse or be involved with another person. I just happen to enjoy debate.... sometimes to my detriment. I'm also a very "aware" person. Sometimes I might not understand the reason for something happening (yet) but it's rare that I don't pick up on what's going on around me.

Um.... I suppose that works for a beginning of the summary of me. If I start going into more detail we could be here for a while.... I have a tendency to ramble and rant and go off on tangents. :)

What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit

Currently working in a crap-tacular job trying to get by. On the plus side though, I finally just bit the bullet and decided to become a professional geek instead of just the amateur I've been for so long and am taking classes to help me get various tech certifications. Also, I'm currently trying to build more positive habits while removing some negative ones. As in, trying to start exercising regularly, and trying to quit smoking - just a couple of examples. Now if I could just bring myself to talk to random people in social situations, I might be all set.....

Anyway, outside of that, I don't really have a long term plan. I have a few hopes and dreams, but mostly, I'm trying to enjoy the moment as much as I can.

I'm really good at Propose an edit

Well, I'm pretty good at a lot of things. I'm not sure I'm exceptional in many areas though. I'm fairly handy with computers. I can rant pretty well. All in all, I'm not overly exceptional (in my eyes) at many things, but I'm pretty competent at more things than I think most people are.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit

I'm tall..... Apparently being big intimidates and impresses other people or something.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit

Really? You want me to answer this question? That list is so damn long......

Okay, after attempting to answer this question, I'm forced to mention here at the beginning, that the best way to find this stuff out is to have many long and interesting discussions with me. :)

Books: Stranger in a Strange Land, Time Enough For Love, Snowcrash, The Dark Tower Series, Fight Club, 1984, Brave New World, The Harry Potter Series, my trashy sci fi books (read: Star Wars).... uh.... This question doesn't really warrant me going and looking at my collection to remind me, does it?

Movies: American Beauty, American History X, Fight Club, The Matrix, 300, Office Space, anything by Kevin Smith, most things by Mel Brooks, Star Wars (yes all 6), um.... again, here I am needing to research what I have to give a complete answer.

Music: This just keeps getting more and more difficult.... Over the past few years I've been on a punk kick, including Authority Zero, NOFX, Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys, Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, and many, many others. However, there's a lot of different things I'll listen to, including even some country. I'm not a huge fan though. I particularly am not big on pop (boy/girl bands). But if it rocks, flows, energizes, or swings, I'm probably down. (I'm referencing rock/alt, rap, techno, and swing there, just to be clear.)

Food: Holy crap. Okay, so, I'm not a small man. And my parents know how to cook very well. They even owned a restaurant while I grew up. So, in other words, I've had a lot of chances to eat, and I like food! Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Vietnamese, Sushi, Creole (some anyway), French, Californian, Western (American), etc etc etc. I have a few rules about stuff I don't want to even try (like, I don't eat food that can look at me or taste me back) but I like a lot of different foods. And, depending on how gross an idea it is, I'm willing to try most things as well.

The six things I could never do without Propose an edit

Women - lets be honest... the world would be a pretty crappy place without them.

Internet Access - the greatest library/shopping mall/desk reference/communication tool/entertainment device/stash of porn, of all time.... all in one? Yeah. I think I like it. Is there anything that the Internet can't provide?

Food - Sure, everybody needs food. But food is enjoyable, fun, and just plain good. ....I like food. :)

Books - we went over the geek thing, right? Yeah, I like to read. A lot. To the point that I don't really understand why some people don't at least occassionally read.

Music - I have long thought that blood doesn't flow through my veins, music does instead. I love music, pretty much always have. And while I don't have the inherent talent to be a professional musician, or really, the drive to make up for that, I'm pretty much constantly listening to music.

My brain - I identify most strongly around my intellect and my ability to reason. Not to say I'm an emotionless bastard or anything.... far from it. But I spend a lot of time in my own head and value my intelligence quite highly. To a fault even. If and when I let it get out of hand, I can become a bit of an elitist prick about it. Despite that drawback, however, I still revere power of the human mind... and as I said, highly value my own.

I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit

In no particular order: women, computers, video games, food, how I can improve myself, politics, religion, philosophy, society, and whatever shiny, blinking gadget happens to be distracting me at the moment... among a great many other things.

On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit

.... quite often sitting at home partaking in one of my various geeky pass times.... but most of my friends don't go out that much and I don't like going out alone, even if I do like going and doing stuff. It also depends on what kind of events are going on. I love going to concerts if there's any available. And barhopping usually provides some decent entertainment as well. Really, it all kinda depends on what, if anything, is going on.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit

I'm a packrat. Which, among other things, has led to me collecting 4 TVs (I only use one of them), every paycheck stub I've ever received, and so many clothes that I do not wear and will never wear again, that my closet almost looks like it should belong to a woman with a platinum card and a shopping addiction.

You should message me if Propose an edit

I piqued your interest at all. I'm down for everything from an internet chat, to a serious relationship, to.... well whatever really. I find people interesting, so if you feel you have something interesting to say, then I'm down to discuss it/debate it/rant about it/listen to you talk about it.
