My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a (reasonably) intelligent, kind, friendly information sponge. A lover of random facts and knowledge, I'm a huge and unashamed history geek, have been for as far back as I can remember. I enjoy the occasional good beer or whiskey, especially if its in an old time pub. I like wandering around museums, old houses and galleries. This year I took up Viking re-enactment and its been awesome so far.

What am I looking for here? That depends what happens. I'd be interested in a relationship if I find the right person, but I'm open to something short-term or just meeting some interesting folk. The most important thing for me is meeting people with a curiosity about the world and the random mixture of craziness and tedium that is life. Some shared interests would be a bonus. Other than that I'm pretty flexible except when it comes to horrible racist/sexist/homophobic attitudes.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Getting on with it after the shell-shock of finishing my doctorate. Hopefully being published soon. Working in a library. Being a Viking on weekends.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Various, quite specific history related subjects I suppose, kind of comes with the territory.

Not something I'm necessarily especially good at but I do enjoy practicing martial arts, a lot of fun and great way to clear and focus your mind, even if you can end up rather bruised.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Maybe my rather sarcastic sense of humour, I tend to put a smart-arse spin on most topics.

I am on the shorter side of average, those looking for a chap over six foot should bear this in mind.

Oh and I've been told I have very nice eyes, which is good because in terms of seeing things well my eyes are fairly rubbish.

Fiction Books : John Steinbeck, George Orwell, love what I've read of Cormac McCarthy so far. I'm also a fan of historical fiction and some fantasy stuff so George Martin, Bernard Cornwell, been a Terry Pratchett fan since my youth, Enjoy various comic books particularly Neil Gaimans 1603 series and most anything by Warren Ellis. I'm currently looking to expand my literary education so if you know of any good ones, let me know!

Non-Fiction Books: Lots of non-fiction books, if you want some recommendations for literature on early American history I can sort you out. Also fascinated by sociology, psychology, criminology, philosophy anything to do with people really.
Movies: Various action/thrillers and comedy mostly, Millers Crossing, True Grit, Anchorman is fun in a deranged sort of way, Pixar films give me a warm fuzzy glow inside. Also love older films, The Big Sleep, For a few Dollars More, Sunset Boulevard. Having said all that I'm happy to watch most anything as long as its well made.

Shows: Game of Thrones, the Wire, Deadwood, Generation Kill, How I met your mother, Family Guy.

Music: Mostly stuff with guitars in it ranging from 70s rock, Lynrd Skynrd, Fleetwood Mac, Foghat to 90s punk, Greenday, the Offspring, to country and bluegrass, the Civil Wars, the Steeldrivers. I like to think I can appreciate most forms of music but I've not yet managed to get my head around the appeal of trance.

Games: I'll say upfront that yes I do like to game although I try not to let it take over my life, FarCry 3, the Fallout series, Assassins Creed, Crusader Kings, the Total War series.

Food: I'm up for trying pretty much anything once but I love Chinese and you can't beat a good pulled pork sandwich. And bacon, always and forever bacon.
