I am articulate, shy, and contemplative.

My Self-Summary

I'm a junior at NYU, majoring in politics and history, but with the intent to become an editor, preferably of fiction books. To that end, I also do a little bit of writing, myself, though intermittently, and I read voraciously.

I'm pretty shy and probably a little awkward (too much honesty?) around people I don't know very well, but I love to have intelligent discussions and adore arguing with open-minded people.

What I’m doing with my life

Currently, procrastinating. With everything. In the long-run, as stated, working towards landing a job at a publishing house, and in the short-run (is that a phrase?), I'm enjoying being a lazy, lazy college student.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I can't list specific favorite books, so let's talk genres, instead. I read an overwhelming amount of romances (but remain one of the more romantically cynical people I know, go figure) largely because I enjoy them and partially because they are one of the best- and most-steadily-selling genres in literature, and like I said, I'd really like a job when I graduate. I also really enjoy the broader category of chick-lit/women's fiction, historical fiction, YA fiction, some sci-fi and a lot of fantasy--think Anne Bishop, Anne McCaffrey; and political/social satire--think Palahniuk, Vonnegut, Heller. I enjoy some creative non-fiction, but I'll admit I find a lot of nonfiction dead boring.

I don't see a lot of movies, because I too frequently leave the theater wondering why I've wasted 8 bucks (in Cleveland), or even better 12 bucks (NYC) on whatever I just saw. I enjoy some classic films, some romantic comedies, and I can definitely enjoy and appreciate a good film--I just tend not to really seek them out.

I'll admit, I enjoy musicals. I also like indie rock, fake punk (ashamed of it? yes. But I'm not gonna lie), brit pop. Favorite bands include Say Anything, Nada Surf, Belle and Sebastian, Radiohead (particularly their earlier, less-electronic stuff); Ben Folds Five, Badly Drawn Boy, Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse.

Mmm, food. Sadly, although I would love to learn, I'm not much of a cook. But I do appreciate a well-cooked meal, and I enjoy going to Indian restaurants, Greek restaurants, and am enjoying French cuisine, as well. I am a huge fan of things that make my arteries cringe, such as fried anything, a good steak, most types of cheese, and most anything chocolate.

The six things I could never do without

The library, my laptop and the internet, my contacts (as I enjoy actually being able to see more than a foot in front of my face). Since six is as arbitrary as four, I'll just leave it there for now.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Why it is I spend more time thinking about things than actually doing them. A lot more time...

On a typical Friday night I am

Reading, hanging out with friends at my house or their's, going out to dinner/bar/club with friends. I do like to let loose and drink and dance on occasion, but I'm generally more content relaxing with good food, good people, and good conversation.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I apparently don't know how to spell the word occasion, as used above, and had to use OkCupid's handy spell-check device to get it right. This embarrasses me particularly as the other private thing I'll admit is that I am a bit of an intellectual snob, despite not being (as proven) all that smart myself. Ah, my foibles...

You should message me if

You aren't a crazy stalker/killer/rapist? You aren't looking solely for someone to hook up with for the evening? You don't have horns growing out of the top of your head (or are clever at disguising them)?

More seriously, please don't be a creepy guy older than 30. If that offends you, you probably are one. Please be able to type a coherent, grammatical paragraph. Please be willing to talk/email/IM for a little before we (maybe) meet.

Other than that, try me:) I'm nice, I can't bite you over the internet (ignore the teeth marks on my laptop, please...), and I'd like to meet new people, whether its just to chat online or in person (though I'm a little shy about that).
