Homicide at the End of the Rainbow.

Oct 19, 2009

I happen to be artsy and like to write poetry. Here is one that I wrote a few months ago.

Enjoy.
Creative criticism welcome.

Life was good,
Life was grand.
Life was sweet
When you held my hand.
It's all downhill
From here...
No, from here,
It's into Hell.
Everything changes,
Everyone's bitter.
Nothing's worth fighting over,
Life isn't so sentimental.
Children can't wait to grow up,
Adults wish they could grow down.
But what's so wrong
With just being in the now?
As we progress,
Colours become dull,
Days are met with
The touch of a snooze button.
What happened to the days
When colours were the world?
Days brought new adventures?
When life wasn't so routine?
What happened to optimism?
What happened to smiles?
When did 'I can't wait!'
Turn into 'Oh god, not now'?
Life isn't meant for routine.
It's meant to be treated
As a wild stallion.
Never tame, never dull.
Colours are meant
To brighten a day.
Time is meant
To fly.
So we used to think.
Welcome to life,
Children of the now.
Welcome to the Real World.
Hit the snooze.
Bite your tongue,
Keep your opinions,
Your creativity,
Your advice.
Fall into line,
Put on the suit,
Straighten your tie,
Fix your skirt.
Bite your cheek as you walk
Out into the day you snoozed on.
Close your eyes against the colours,
Brace yourself against adventure.
Be ready for the guillotine,
Become a clone,
Be ready for the routine,
Live the way they tell you.
Lose your mind,
It's time to see
The homicide
At the end of the rainbow.

Homicide at the End of the Rainbow.
I like the title more than anything else. I think you could do more with it.
