I am unique, stubborn, and questing.

My Self-Summary

Normal people worry me. Believe me... being weird, unique, unusual, maybe a little crazy, those are all good things. I look normal on the outside, but just talk to me and you'll realise just how wrong that first impression was.

However, I've recently come to the realisation that a great many people who also look normal on the outside, really suck once I get to know them. (Also recently realised: some people who look interesting on the outside are actually flippin' *nuts* on the inside.)

I've begun aiming to let my outsides reflect my insides. I got my eyebrow pierced, and I'm pretty happy with that. Got a tattoo that I've always wanted. Cut all my hair off, although I regret that one and I'm growing it back now. I'm thinking about doing more appearance changes. Maybe change my dressing style? But I don't have the patience to dress in any sort of genre style, goth or punk or whatever would suit my personality. I'd just be posing anyway. So yeah... Not going to happen.

I moved to Ottawa at the start of July last year. After a few temp locations, I've found a new place that I hope to stay in for a while.

I have two part time retail jobs now, and the scheduling isn't perfect. I'm going to begin looking for something better, something more stable and full-time. Hopefully something in an office and/or government... Something that isn't *retail*.

I'm looking for friends in the Ottawa area right now.

What I’m doing with my life

Graduated from St. Francis Xavier University, with a BA (history major, english minor).

Moved to Ottawa last July, so it's coming up on a year that I've been here. (woo!)

Working retail. Long hours, not much pay. But aiming for new things this september.

Other than that, trying to get back to my writing, which hopefully will actually happen one of these days.

I’m really good at

Creative writing, singing, dancing, cooking and baking, being a cat whisperer, hugs, talking about nothing for hours on end, talking about everything for hours on end, procrastinating, sleeping in...

The first things people usually notice about me

How shy I am. But that's just at first. I warm up once you get to know me. I swear.

I've been told that that *isn't* the first thing people notice about me, though. I've been told it's my eyes. I don't really get that since they're generally behind glasses, but I've been told they're good for catching people's attention. Also, I've had a lot of people tell me that I've got a great smile.

I guess I can't really say what what the first thing people notice about me is. It's been a long time since I first noticed myself.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I have really eclectic tastes.

Books: I had more time for recreational reading before university, but I fit it in wherever I can. I adored 'White Oleander'. Dracula has always been a favorite. I read 'American Gods' by Neil Gaiman, and had a weird time of that. Ask me about it if you're curious. Writers I love are Tolkien, Nicholas Evans, Jane Austen, Tad Williams, Jacqueline Carey, Juliet Marillier, Edgar Allan Poe, and I have recently become enamoured with the poetry of e.e. cummings. Used to love reading Harry Potter but have since lost interest. I finished reading them all, and was seriously disappointed with the last two books. So now I just don't care. Besides, it's over.

Oh, and I read non-fiction also. Typically of a historical slant. For instance, "The Great Mortality", by John Kelly. Great, great book if you're interested in the Black Death. Which was the topic I had planned on writing a master's thesis about, once upon a time. I'm currently reading a book about human dissection... victorian medical history, not serial killers (although they're interesting too.)

Movies: I like really well-developed, character-driven plots, but sometimes I love something dead-brainless too. I love Tim Burton films, nearly all the Johnny Depp movies, most Edward Norton movie, and the original Star Wars trilogy, among others. Also, 300, V for Vendetta, the Bourne trilogy, Office Space, 28 Days Later, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Cider House Rules, Wonder Boys, The Full Monty, The Graduate, the campy The Three Musketeers with Keifer Sutherland, the A&E Pride and Prejudice, and my all-time favourite movie is The Shawshank Redemption. ...I also have a guilty love for romantic comedies and Disney movies, although I can be allergic to too much sap.

Music: Again, depends on my mood. Sometimes I'm a Michelle Branch girl, sometimes I'm a Rage Against the Machine girl. Generally, I'm somewhere in between. Right now, I'm listening to System of a Down, White Stripes, Bob Dylan, Katy Perry, Metric, Nine Inch Nails, Marvin Gaye, Frou Frou, Imogen Heap, Rhianna, Jack Johnson, The Wailin' Jennys, Nirvana, the Rolling Stones and the Beatles, but not exclusively.

Food: This is where I get picky. Hate raisins, and pretty much all dried fruit. The stuff creeps me out. Love cheesecake, caesar salads, and pasta salad. But not together.

I honestly can't live without tea.

The six things I could never do without

1. tea (I mean it!)

2. communication with my friends and family

3. my singing voice

4. my computer + internet hookup (barring that, pen and paper and the library)

4. sleeping in on weekends (when I have weekends)

6. cats

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How crazily fucked life can be. Life is doing this thing lately where it's just constantly interesting, in good ways, in bad ways, and then in just *interesting* ways.

Whether or not life's on the up and ups. Don't want to jinx it.

On a typical Friday night I am

I have no clue what my schedule's going to be... that's shift work for you.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I like to alphabetize things. I really do. Like books, or CDs, or DVDs... canned food, even. I know. It's weird. But weird is a good thing, right?

You should message me if

You want to chat. Pretty simple. I'm looking for new friends, especially of the female persuasion. Guys are great, but a girl needs girl friends.

I usually answer messages I get, unless you seem creepy, like you're spamming me, or like you haven't even glanced at my profile and don't care who I am, except that I might be female.

Oh, and variations upon "ur hot, wanna hook up?"? Those don't get answered either.

Update: It's come to my attention that I have a very bad memory. If I've been exchanging messages with you and you haven't heard from me in a week or 3, it's not that I don't care. It's just that I forgot. (And my life is insane right now.) Send me a friendly reminder and I'll apologize profusely.
