I'm originally from New York, but I went to school and lived in Chicago for a few years to work for a wine company. Now I write for an art news site, which I really like a lot. I also mix and produce music, and do a ton of freelancing for blogs and magazines. When I'm not working, I see movies, go to museums and galleries, see shows, all typically, alone. So here I am.

Running real fast. Pushing things over. Cooking. Identifying accents. Shaving without a mirror.

I've been told I look like the mean jock in a high school movie.

On one hand, I can totally see how obnoxious it might seem to make lists like these. It's really pompous and of course there's a limit to how much your taste defines you.

Within those limits, though, it can be decent barometer as to whether or not you and another person would get along. If we found we both liked Philip Roth and Gillian Wearing or Joy Division and The Larry Sanders Show, then I'm sure we'd have more to talk about. Conversely, if you've never heard of any of these things, then we could end up boring the shit out of each other when we met. So bear with me, please.

For years, if people asked me what my favorite movie was, I'd say "Goodfellas" but now it's looking more like "The Maltese Falcon." Last year, on my birthday, I stayed in and watched "Repo Man" and it was all I ever could have wished for.

Global warming. High Modernism. Humphrey Bogart. The part at the beginning of a horror movie where everything's cheerful and happy. The part of a music video where the musicians are in the studio "goofing off."
