My self-summary Propose an edit

I'm a French eternal student. I was born in Paris and live here too. Somebody told me that I pretty much defined myself through my tastes, and that could be true.

So, my first and foremost hobby is gaming in general, and pen & paper role playing games in particular. I'm also open to many other kinds of games: video games, LARP, board games, war games... I think the main thing I avoid is gambling.

You think it couldn't go any geekier ? Wrong ! I've studied chemistry, and still love explaining sciences. And will probably make a job out of it someday.

I also need to stay in touch with the world, to follow the news and to be aware of stuff. That's one of the reasons why I've got a profile here: because people from all nationalities come here with backpacks full of stories.

With all that, I used to be a bit shy. I mean, c'mon, you all know that books are more fun than people. But you can also look at it that way : people have stories to tell, people are stories themselves. People like you or me are bloody interesting.

What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit

I'm a student, preparing the exam to become a physics/chemistry high school teacher in a suburb of Paris. I'm a gamer at heart, so I spend quite some time playing video games, pen & paper role playing games, surfing here on the Web or just reading sci-fi or med-fan. I'm curious, especially about sciences. I'm becoming a skilled lurker on the English-language Wikipedia, and I'm getting better everyday at editing the francophone one.

I dream of travelling before petrol totally disappears from Earth, but I'm not doing it. But I'll do some hitchhiking when I have time. And I'll visit Spain then. Or Great Britain - again. Like, soon. Later. I've got a profile to write first.

I'm really good at Propose an edit

I can explain stuff rather well. That's good news, because it's supposed to become my job. I really love to explain sciences to people. I've heard many people telling me that chemistry, physics and maths were something they'd never understood. But I do believe that sciences are interesting and should be seen as part of our culture, just like literature or music.

Oh, and I also share most qualities that are common to all role players: quick counting, a sense of cartography, knowledge of the English language, basic history and geography, and most of all, an imagination strong enough to revive a faerie.

I'm afraid I'll sound arrogant if I answer "My eyes". I'm more socially easygoing on the Internet than in real life, to be honest.

My geeky T-shirts used to be very obvious, but I've grown milder now. Don't worry, I still have a few dragons hidden in my closet.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit

(a) I love books, and reading. But I don't read the "right" thing. I mostly read magazines, and science-fiction or medieval fantasy... If I need to pick only one author, I'll say Fritz Leiber or Terry Pratchett. That's two authors. I also love uchronias.

(b) About the movies, well, I don't know. I like Tim Burton but I'm not a fan. I'm not a fan of anything in particular, I think... Some movies have rocked my youth, such as the Robocop series, the Ghostbusters series, both of the first opus of Alien... I do like anime, but I'm not all that deep into them ; one of my favorite must be Grave of the Fireflies.

(c) I used to steal music from people around me, but it's stabilizing. Now, I'm mostly into ska, punk, metal, and original soundtracks.

If you need names, I'll quote Ska-P, Madness, Less than Jake and Les Caméléons for the ska, the Sex Pistols, the Ramones, the Clash, the Exploited, Bad Religion, X-Ray Spex, the Dropkick Murphys and the Toy Dolls for the punk, the Who and the Pogues for rock, and System of a Down, Nightwish, Arch Enemy, Lacuna Coil, Apocalyptica and Rammstein for metal.

(d) I love junk food, but it's more by convenience than taste. I guess I must have a black hole in my belly, because I'm one of these lucky fellows who don't grow too fat. Otherwise, my tastes in food are more defined by what I don't like than by what I like. I've got a sweet tooth that would make a gummy bear jealous, so my tastes are much broader for desserts than for main dishes. Don't try seafood on me.

In all of these domains, I love things that are a bit twisted out of their original meaning. I like heroes to be retaken by a different writer in a different atmosphere (that means Miller's Batman, or the heroes of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, or the X-men becoming dââârk in some spin-offs), I like uchronias (You know, "what if the Nazis had won", "what if Louis II of Bavaria hadn't gone crazy"...), I like bands to play renowned songs differently. (Ludwig von 88 playing We will rock you, the Toy Dolls playing Livin' la vida loca, or that disc I've got with a mix between Vivaldi and Irish music.) I like satires when they are well done, sometimes without even knowing the original...

The six things I could never do without Propose an edit

Well... writing material, some time for myself, talking about sex as long as it isn't my sex, a computer (at least as an expansion of my brains and memory), a backpack bigger than my bedroom, and books.

I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit

Damn. Now's the time to say something smart. And my heart wants to answer "Sex !" but that would be too easy an answer. I think a British study revealed that we thought about sex once every 8 minutes, so yes, I think about sex a lot.

Well, I love to think about role playing games and other worlds... But usually, when I'm left to think on my own, I go to look for something to read. Anything !

Probably spending the night on the computer. Or I could be re-reading a role playing game scenario. And of course, I love to go out with friends too (yes, friends... You know, the ones with warm blood who even speak !).

I think I don't like animals a lot. Or at least I don't like being with them. I suppose I prefer them running in the wilds in a romantic picture than having an unequal relationship with humans, being owned, tamed, and messed up with for our emotional needs. Or maybe I've just had too many cats pee on my pants.
