My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm going to admit this upfront. I'm a geek. But apparently, OkCupid says I'm a Pure Nerd.

Requisite dorky glasses and proud of it? Check.
Loves going to conventions? Double Check.
Strange obsession to dress in anachronistic costume? Check Mate!

I'm an ex-programmer turned game designer and have drifted in and out of art school. I've always been creative in one form or another.

Now, mostly I'm a musician and aspiring composer. Musically, I tend to gravitate toward film scores rooted in classical aesthetic, heavily influenced by romantic era styling. I'm finding my tastes are shifting though as I'm getting more exposure to world music styles.

I like games and have a particular soft spot for board games and the occasional light miniatures game. If you're busting out the tape measure, you're probably too hard-core for me. Oh, and if you know what Dreamblade is, you just rolled a natural 20! :)

I'm very easy going--for most things, but there are some things I just will not compromise. I value honesty, genuine friendship and am extremely loyal to those who have earned my trust. I also have a romantic side to me, but it isn't overbearing and I most definitely need my alone time.

I generally enjoy being active but can also laze around. I like to run, hike, kayak, roller-blade and play table tennis on occasion. I own a kayak and live close to the water.

My activity level fluctuates a lot depending on how busy I am. It ranges from moderately intense to sedentary depending on the season. A few years ago, I got overly ambitious and started training for a triathlon. It was a bad idea--I really, really suck at riding a bike--thankfully I'm a half-way decent skater!

I'm not really into sports (both as a participant or spectator) with few exceptions. I love to watch MMA and enjoy watching volleyball. Table tennis is perhaps my favorite spectator sport.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm currently back in school studying music composition after working for just over 10 years in video games. I play violin in orchestra, clarinet, percussion and piano in symphonic winds, and sing in a choir. Unfortunately, this leaves very little time for a social life which I hope to remedy in the near future!
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I'm a fast learner and am naturally curious.

My friends tell me I'm a good listener. I'll let you be the judge. I prefer to listen more than I like to talk and have a tendency to empathize with others. If you want someone to hear you out or a shoulder to cry on, I'm your girl.

Music has always been a big part of my life. First and foremost, I'm a composer and I spend a lot of time writing. There's always some melodic material running in my head 24/7 and it often keeps me up at night.

I'm a decent pianist and I've been teaching part-time on and off since high school. I don't perform much these days and mainly use the piano as a tool for composition. I love learning new instruments and am constantly working to broaden my musical horizon.

I play the piano, violin, clarinet, ukulele, marimba, guitar, mbira, and sing contralto. My skill level varies from instrument to instrument, but my intention is to learn something from every instrument family to better facilitate orchestration. I'll be moving to brass in the near future and have my eye on the French horn. Maybe trumpet. We'll see.

I had a brief stint in art school when I was working in video games. I love to doodle and enjoy figure drawing, photography, sculpting with oil-based clays and working with watercolors.
The first things people usually notice about me

My height.

I'm happy, friendly and approachable. I enjoy helping others and sometimes, I'm too accommodating for my own good--I'm working on striking a better balance.

Despite all of this, I'm an introvert (I get energy being by myself) but I also love to hang out in small groups. I do really well in one-on-one situations and in smallish settings. Things start to break down when groups get larger, or rather I should say, when things start to get impersonal. I hate small talk but can hold my own in moderate doses.

I'm a bit shy at first... but I can get quite talkative once I warm up to people. I get downright silly when you get to know me *really* well...

Oh, and I have a seriously voracious appetite.

Help your potential matches find common interests.
Genetic Roulette, Wreck it Ralph, Argo, Life of Pi, Cloud Atlas, Aliens, The Professional, Memento, L.A. Confidential, The Descent, Love and Other Drugs, 500 Days of Summer, Matchstick Men, Cabin in the Woods, 28 Days After, 28 Weeks After, Battle Royale, Dawn of the Dead, Interview with the Vampire, Pan's Labyrinth, The Fellowship of the Ring, Super 8, The Goonies, The Karate Kid, The Usual Suspects, Snatch, Raiders of the Lost Arc, Inception, Warrior, Haywire (love MMA - go Gina Carano!), Fagbug, Beautiful Boxer, Dragonslayer, The Prestige, The Black Swan, Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, Miyazaki Films, Wallace and Grommit, The Incredibles, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, While You Were Sleeping, Shall We Dansu and many, many more! I generally like, Sci-fi, Fantasy, Psychological Horror (I hate slashers), Adventure, Animation and Romantic Comedies. I don't like most modern blockbuster adrenaline pumping action flicks.

I like Benny Goodman, Eddie Daniels, Oscar Peterson, Rachmaninov (someday I'll find the time to learn and record all of the Op. 23 Preludes), Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, Brukner, Prokofiev, Jeremy Soule, Alex North and many more. I'm can't say I'm all that into the pop music scene, I do like the Indigo Girls, Kaki King, Koop, Ono Lisa, John Mayer, Jason Mraz to name a few.

I love anything sausage... mmmm. Brats, Toad in a Hole, Polish dogs, Ballpark Weiners and I have a special weak spot for salami. I also love noodles and pasta in particular. Japanese and Indian curries rank highly in the food hierarchy as well. I'm a total foodie and love to try new restaurants. I'm adventurous in my tastes and will try anything once--provided it isn't alive at the time of consumption.

I'm somewhat of a cook and enjoy doing it--even more so in collaboration with a partner. Cooking together is a great way to get to know somebody. I generally eat gluten free at home but all bets are off when eating out. I'm very much an improvisational cook and I basically wing it with whatever I have on hand. I make a mean gluten free spinach quiche, mushroom risotto and my spicy chicken parmigiana with home-made marinara is to die for :)

TV Shows:
I'm a big fan of Sci-fi and Fantasy. Firefly, Battlestar, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Spartacus and Lost are among my favorites. I also love Criminal Minds, How I Met Your Mother, New Girl and a whole slew of other dramas. I also like Top Chef and other cooking shows.

Board Games:
I have a fairly substantial board game collection. Gaming is primarily a social experience for me. I much prefer lighter and quicker games over long and complicated big box games. Some of my favorites include: Carcasonne, Nightfall, Claustrophobia, 7 Wonders, San Juan, Ascension, Bang!, Blue Moon City, Survive, and Heroscape.
