My self-summary
Street smart, decent, loyal, somewhat intense, kind, often funny, left wing type guy. More blue collar, grunge, indie, and out of the mainstream than I might appear. Sorta of a Nelson Algren who became a lawyer type.
What I’m doing with my life
Using my powers for good. Spending time with friends, staying healthy, travelling. I work as an attorney with my own practice. For the most part, I defend working people from being imprisoned and/or deported. It's stressful, but to be motivated, I need work I feel is important. Sometimes I sue institutions or the government on behalf of people.
Still a community organizer/rabble rouser at heart. You don't have to be.
I’m really good at
Laughing, staying healthy, listening, being annoyed by the world. Being a friend. Catching things that fall unexpectedly. Parallel parking.
The first things people usually notice about me
Overpowering good looks, brilliant mind, humility;).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Quick samples:
TV: Portlandia, Arrested Development, Louie, workaholics, The Daily Show, Stefon.
Books/authors: The Great Gatsby, The House on Mango Street, Catcher in the Rye, Autobiography of Malcolm X, Go Tell It on the Mountain, James Balwin, Salman Rushdie, Twain, Hemingway, Steinbeck ....I read non-fiction, history. Just finished "1491"- great, and periodicals.

Movies: A sample: What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Monty Python, 28 days later (zombie movie), the Wrestler, Lost in Translation... I also like classic (Noir, etc.) and most art/foreign films a lot.

Food: I like all types of food if it is prepared well and relatively healthy, especially Indian, Chinese, and Polish food.

Music: Bob Marley, Lou Reed, Neil Young, Iggy and the Stooges, White Strips, Miles Davis, Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Archie Shepp, the Who, The Clash, Patti Smith, Mozart, Dylan and Springsteen, Peter Gabriel, Gil Scott Heron, Johnny Cash, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, The Velvet Underground, Public Enemy, Naked Raygun, Curtis Mayfield, Benny Carter, the Cure, Rodriguez... If it's done well, I enjoy almost any type of music, Irish, folk, punk, Motown, R&B, gypsy, funk, classical, Jazz, Blues, sometimes even country ...but rock and roll is closest to my heart.
The six things I could never do without
Friends, bike, summer or the promise of summer, NPR even though it pisses me off sometimes, and travel, especially outside the U.S., lately I've been craving being in nature.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
injustice, justice, taking that next trip, psychology-mainly my own, history and pre-history, politics, alternative lives I may be living in alternate universes, caramel corn.
On a typical Friday night I am
I'm lucky to have a good group of long term friends. Most Friday nights I hang out with them. Other times, I'm just at home relaxing.
