I am musical, quick-witted, and inquisitive.

My Self-Summary

I am a jazz composer, and I used to work in public radio -- and still listen to it way too much. Some people think I'm nuts when I say it, but the things I most look for in the opposite sex are: Eyes; smile; em-dashes; and semicolons. I love people watching and have been known to sit in public parks with a sign that says "tell me your story," to which complete strangers come and just talk to me on tape. (I have edited and podcast a few of the stories I've heard.)

What I’m doing with my life

Lately, I've spread my time between various musical endeavours and doing the typical friend-things that one does with friends. I ultimately want to go into artist management, and the first step with that starts in January, when I start law school. So I guess the next step is figuring out who's giving me a load and where I'm getting health insurance...

Really -- I'm a more interesting person than that makes me sound. I promise!

I’m really good at

Saying I'm going to bed and then actually going to sleep 2 hours later; cooking; baking; singing in the shower along with my shower radio (shower karaoke is SO much better than shower a cappella!); and you may not know it by looking at me, but I'm quite good at archery.

The first things people usually notice about me

My energy, my ease around people, and my complete okay-ness with making a fool of myself. (Though I can play the straight-man a la Bob Newhart pretty well, too.)

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Movies: Annie Hall, Umbrellas of Cherbourg, The Muppets Take Manhattan, Manhattan, Pulp Fiction, Blazing Saddles, Princess Bride

Books: Between You and Me (Mike Wallace), Kiss Me Like a Stranger (Gene Wilder), The Elements of Style (Strunk and White), Sounds and Scores (Henry Mancini), Play by Play: Baseball, Radio, and Life in the Last Chance League (Neal Conan), 700 Sundays (Billy Crystal)

Food: Plums, Grapes, Apples, Chocolate, Grilled Cheese, And the Chicken Meatball sandwich from Roots and Vines on the LES. (It doesn't sound like something that wonderful, but one bite and you're hooked.)

The six things I could never do without

Trying to avoid cliches, but probably failing:
*My kitchen
*The pencil I write music with. (There's a story behind it.)
*The Muppet Show, Season 1 (Okay, I could, but I wouldn't be as happy.)
*Music. Specifically, being a part of the music community in New York. (Jazz musicians, for the most part, are wonderful people.)
*Comfortable socks
*A good place to people watch

I spend a lot of time thinking about

What's for dinner, what my next adventure will be, and much to the dismay of my friends, the exact sentence structure and wording of the voicemails I leave.

On a typical Friday night I am

I could either be at home, watching a DVD or catching up on missed TV, or I may be at a basement jazz club in the West Village hanging out with friends, itching to play in the jam session.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Thunder and lightning still scares me. A lot.
And Tuesday is the bane of the week. (Not so much private, but one of the lesser known facts about me.)

You should message me if

You have ideas on how I can learn to enjoy thunder and lightning, you want to teach me how to dance, or you have something you want to say.
