I am a man who is very much alive, vibrant, curious, passionate and empathetic. I am looking for a like-minded woman. I want to form a bond—something real and strong and lasting. I read today that a writer was given advice by a mentor when the writer was young. The advice was, "Discover something new every day." I believe in that. I love books and reading. I write and I teach and so art, all art, is important to me. I've published some books—hope you like them.

I have a daughter I'm nuts about. And very proud of. Being her dad has been, and is, a privilege.

Then there's the age thing. Yes, that's my age. I could change it, lower it, but I won't. Then there would be that moment when I'd reveal it, and that's not a good way to start. I am in body and spirit closer to 50. The photos are current, they are the reality. So, what I'm saying is, see if there's something here that resonates with you, with your head and your heart.

I like to travel. I lived in France for a year, in a small village. Before I came to New Orleans, I lived in New York. Even if you don't like New York, I bet I can change your mind. I love the outdoors. I'm not a hunter. Just an appreciator of nature. I would like to spend time with someone who is compassionate and truthful and considerate. These are virtues I've come to admire more and more in a partner. I want intimacy. I want passion. I want a woman who wants that, too. Enthusiastically. I want to laugh with her. I mean, hearty, almost out-of-control laughter. I want someone who appreciates the short glorious present we've been given, these rich years here. In short, I want to spend my time with someone I'm impossibly attracted to and who I can go all in with. Because, as we know, it's still a gamble, isn't it? I'll end with some lyrics from Joni Mitchell's great record, "Blue": "All that I really want our love to is to bring out the best in me and in you."

I'm trying to savor every minute of this all-too precious life. I'm breathing in and breathing out. Get huge joy and satisfaction from helping to raise my beautiful daughter.

I will not say good writer because that's bad luck, and in any case it's not up to me to decide. I do my best. It's what I care about.

Hmmm. I have absolutely no idea.

So many books, so little time. Goes on and on. From Heart of Darkness to Seabiscuit to Hemingway's short stories. I have entire wall full of friends--i. e., books. Music? All kinds, really. Blues, opera, jazz...whoops, add rap and heavy metal to the no category. Food? Love so many types of cuisines. So many good things to eat.

Light, friendship, laughter, mornings, books, compassion.
