I notice a lot of girls / women on online dating sites enjoy
drinking Coffee, tasting Wine, and listening to the NPR while doing
yoga. Those not exactly on my list, but I do believe there's a
"Yin" to a girl's "Yang" in that not every single interest needs to
be shared in order to be compatible and it's good to have a few
differences we can call our own, as well as stuff we can share or
introduce to one another to expand each others horizons. Here's
mine:
BOOK(s) - I don't read books recreationally very often, but have
enjoyed "Freakanomics" and "Makes Me Wanna Holler" (by Nathan
McCall), as I tend to enjoy biographical or factual based books.
Contrary to that, however I enjoy reading simple comic books (like
"The Walking Dead") as well as trashy pop culture and entertainment
magazines n' tabloids, as well as stories on the Internet.
MOVIE(s) - I'm not huge into the movie theater experience, as I
inevitably am always the one sitting in front of a seat kicker or
near a neighboring chatterbox, plus sometimes think it's a less
than social activity. I do enjoy a good story with likable
characters, be it action/adventure, science fiction/fantasy,
comedy, romance or drama, including a feel good romantic comedy or
so called chick-flick once in a while too. I can be fairly low-brow
in my tastes, since I often times see movies as a form of
entertainment, more so than introspective or thought provoking art.
I generally like positive and upbeat films more than anything dark
and disturbing, 'tho enjoy things that can be thought provoking.
Some of my favorite movies that are maybe less known titles to the
mainstream include: "A Better Tomorrow"; "Drop Dead Fred"; "Police
Story"; "Bed of Roses"; "Gorgeous"; "Hiding Out"; "Legacy of Rage";
and "Career Opportunities."
SHOW(s) - I'm assuming this is TV, not theater. I try not to put
myself into situations where I'm held hostage to programming and
the cliffhangers, with that, I prefer to watch shows on DVD where I
can crank out marathon sessions rather than watch week to week. I
did watch "Revolution" from the current TV season. Otherwise, some
of my more favorite series either ongoing or of the past includes:
"Mad Men", "How I Met Your Mother", "The Big Bang Theory", "Las
Vegas", "Veronica Mars", "Tru Calling", "The Dollhouse", "Buffy the
Vampire Slayer", "Angel", "Gilligan's Island", and most sit-coms. I
also find myself enjoying watching the local news most often.
MUSIC - I do enjoy a diverse range spanning decades from the 1950's
to present pop, as well as niche genres like AOR/Classic Rock,
R&B/Soul, Hip Hop, Dance, Alternative/Modern Rock, and most
mainstream or crossover radio hits. If you have a mega mix or
mash-up that's executed properly, you'll get my attention. I used
to work at a radio station in marketing and promotions doing
contests and special events.
FOOD - I'm fairly basic in my tastes, the standard American fare of
a steakhouse (Cut, Ruth Chris, The Palm, Flemmings, Mortons, and
Maestro's) or seafood always does the trick. I also enjoy what may
be wide to some and limited to others, range of specialty or ethnic
cuisines. My favorites includes some of the following: Japanese
Sushi (Sugarfish and Nagao); Chinese (Din Tai Fung); Korean (AYCE
BBQ's); Italian; Brazilian (Fogo De Chao & Mexican (El Burrito
Jr.) and a few others. Other than on pizza, I'm not a fan of
cheese, and despite also not enjoying mushrooms, I can be a fungi
("fun guy" get it?)...
