My self-summary
*Le Sigh* I've realised I am trying to date new people when my heart is not ready. I need to do a lot of healing and recovery, and get my life together, before I even think about a relationship. Sorry.

P.S. (pre-script) to the guy who visited and says: "I think feminists and Vegan's are EXTREMIST hipsters. So if your one of these block me plzz! We wont get a long because I believe in balance and everything in moderation."

Well, wow, I didn't know feminists aren't allowed to also care about male abuse survivors, men's custody rights, and female-on-male violence! Or that vegans aren't allowed to have a wide variety of meat-eating omnivore friends with whom we get along famously! *looks into mirror* Bloody hell, where did this fedora and pair of colourful skinnyjeans come from...?? I never signed up for this HIPSTER shit!!! *falls down laughing* ;D (But the guy is REALLY CUTE, so I guess I'll forgive him... THIS TIME!) P.S. (postscript) I'll also forgive his egregious spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Seriously, the guy is REALLY THAT HOT. Damn him.

Personality: I've been described as "vibrant, intelligent, humorous and sensitive" (I appreciate the compliment!). I have a strong conscience and live my life according to my ethical code. "Not many people got a code to live by anymore." (Kudos if you can name the film reference, hehe! It's an '80s cult punk rock movie.) I try to treat others as I would like to be treated, and expect the same from others. I admit I can sometimes be a bit uptight and straitlaced. But I love to laugh - I appreciate dry wit and irreverent, satirical humour. Sorry, I'm no good at keeping a straight face! ;D

I love to have fun. I'm a novelty-seeker with a natural sense of adventure. I'm passionate about the things I love, and curious about those of others if they pique my interest. I might be shy at first when I don't know someone, but eventually become relaxed and playful around people who are warm, kind and accepting of me. =====> (Where it says I 'speak' Spanish and Hindi, it's not that I speak it but I do want to learn it!)

Places I've been: Born in Japan, grew up in Toronto and Ottawa, I've also lived in the north of Japan and the north of England. I was studying Music Technology (sound recording and music production) in Manchester, but unfortunately it was not enough to get me into the music business, so I'm trying to think of something else to do for a living...

I am earnest, yet irreverent, and whimsical.
I'm also fierce, passionate, and intense.
I am NOT 'easygoing' or 'carefree' by any stretch of the imagination. Anyone looking for your stereotypical Magic Pixie Asian Girl, move along now, nothing to see here... ;P
What I’m doing with my life
I unfortunately suffer from a chronic mood disorder, and can't work a 9-to-5 type job, so I'm currently living on Disability. I have a wonderful GP, wonderful social workers, a good psychiatrist, and have just finished Dialectical Behaviour Therapy with an excellent psychologist, so yeah, I'm working on my recovery every single day! I have no intention of giving up. I'm currently looking for some places to volunteer, and would eventually like to find a part-time job at a health food store, or a social justice organisation.

Last summer I took a beginner's course in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I love messing about with pictures and photos!

I'm very interested in mixed media and altered art. I've been studying tutorials online, thinking of getting an art book or taking some workshops. I'm particularly into rubber stamps (both ready-made ones, and also carving my own out of erasers and/or linoleum), and making art pendant jewellery. What crafty stuff do you like to do? :)

Another wish is that I'd love to form a British music covers band! I can sing, play a bit of guitar and bass and keyboards (I prefer to either play bass, and/or sing BV). Who'd like to join me?

Nota Bene: ANYONE into crime/cop/detective shows and Cosplay?? Esp Criminal Minds? I'm preparing a Penelope Garcia cosplay for FanExpo coming up in August, and I'm looking for people who wanna cosplay Spencer Reid or Derek Morgan (or anyone else from the show). Anyone...? Anyone...? Bueller...? Bueller...? Bueller...?
I’m really good at
- Quoting apropos film dialogue from my favourite movies.
- Singing snippets of songs to sum up a situation (ooh, alliteration!).
- Dancing to Britpop tunes.
- Singing Beatles harmonies, and learning songs by ear on various instruments (BTW I can sightread, I just have more ear talent than reading talent).
- Being kind and helping people (both friends and complete strangers - I'll be a Good Samaritan as long as it doesn't take too much out of me or put myself in danger).
- Doing crafty stuff.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm short (slightly taller than Kylie Minogue, and the same height as Lady Sovereign). A lot of people remark on my beautiful smile - awww. :) My outrageously hearty laugh - people turn their heads to stare because I'm laughing so hard at someone's joke! ;D

People act flabbergasted when they find out I'm over 40, so I usually don't tell them... Most people assume I'm in my mid-'20s. The secret to my eternal youth? I'm Japanese, what d'you expect! ;) Also, I act much younger than my age. In any case, I wear my <3 on my sleeve - WYSIWYG and all that!
Maybe I'm Miss Fitzhenry. I wasn't in your class... I was your teacher!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
My top favourite artists are the Beatles, the Clash, Pet Shop Boys, Oasis, Noel Gallagher & the High Flying Birds, the Smiths. I'm mostly into British/Irish artists (as you might expect)...
Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse, Lady Sovereign, The Ordinary Boys, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, Klaxons, Arctic Monkeys, Blur, Oasis, Noel Gallagher & the High Flying Birds (but I REALLY DISLIKE Liam Gallagher, sorry!), Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Intastella, Candyflip, Stereo MCs, Saint Etienne, Mono, Portishead, Moloko, Morcheeba, Dubstar, Client, Lush, Sing-Sing, Golden Palominos, Lana Del Rey, Throwing Muses, Cocteau Twins, Violet Indiana, Graeme Revell, Jill Tracy, Meret Becker, Miranda Sex Garden, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Shakespear's Sister, The Smiths, Morrissey (although he's an annoying wanker), Johnny Marr + the Healers (<=This guy's AMAZING!!!), Housemartins, Beautiful South, Rialto, The Fall, Adult Net, Tiny Monroe, Lightning Seeds, Terry Hall, Colourfield, Fun Boy Three, The Specials, The Selecter, The (English) Beat, Madness, Suggs, Sex Pistols, Public Image Limited, the Slits, Neneh Cherry, Malcolm McLaren (an evil sociopath, but he did make some interesting music, albeit mostly plagiarised!), The Clash, Big Audio Dynamite, Havana 3am, The Good The Bad & The Queen, the Gorillaz, The Beatles, Paul McCartney / Wings, The Zombies, Small Faces, The Who, The Creation, The Prisoners, Graham Day & The Gaolers, James Taylor Quartet, The Jam (although I think Paul Weller is a right royal wanker!), Elvis Costello, The Pogues, Ian Dury & the Blockheads, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Electronic (Bernard Sumner & Johnny Marr, w/ PSB), Madonna, Bananarama, the Go-Gos, the Bangles, Duran Duran, Phil Collins, Genesis ('80s incarnation - Bateman was right!), Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed, Velvet Underground, David Bowie, and yes, Lady Gaga (sorry).
Musical Satire: Flight of the Conchords, The Lonely Island, Ylvis (if you don't find the Stonehenge song and video absolutely hysterically funny, don't bother messaging me), and weird/funny songs by Tre Parker (although I'm not a friggin' South Park fan anymore as they've pissed me off once too many).

Love eerie gothic films (it's the Goth in me), action/thrillers, gangster/hitmen/hitgirl/heist flicks, science fiction, '80s movies, children's fantasy, Studio Ghibli anime...
The Company of Wolves, The Woman in Black (the original made-for-TV version from 1989), The Turn of the Screw (1994 made-for-TV version starring Patsy Kensit), The Others, The Shawshank Redemption, Firewall, Phonebooth, Outbreak, The Ghost and the Darkness, Die Hard (best Christmas film ever), In the Line of Fire, The Professional (Leon), Point of No Return, The Bourne Identity, The Specialist, Assassins, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, Ocean's Eleven, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Gangster No.1, Hard Candy, American Psycho, Demolition Man, Trainspotting, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, World's End, Repo Man, This is Spinal Tap, The Commitments, It's All Gone Pete Tong, Bend It Like Beckham, most of the Star Trek films, Serenity (the film retelling of the Firefly TV series), Back to the Future, Ferris Bueller's Day Off (about a bunch of privileged rich white kids - but I can't help it, it's so damn quotable!), Crocodile Dundee I and II, Ghostbusters, Desperately Seeking Susan, Labyrinth, The Neverending Story, Cloak and Dagger, The Sound of Music (we'll never NOT watch it when it's on!), Little Voice, About A Boy (the other best Christmas flick), A Knight's Tale, My Neighbour Totoro, The Cat Returns, Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro (although it's so damned sexist! but I love it so), Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawntreader, Inkheart, The Golden Compass (WHY NO SEQUEL??)
I'm interested in checking out more unusual arty and/or foreign films. Open to recommendations! Oh yeah, recently got into a whole bunch of awesomely hilarious Bollywood films, gotta list'em later... I adore Hrithik Roshan (my first Bollywood crush - although some of his movies are absolutely dreadful... I just saw the trailer for his latest flick and I was laughing all the way through it, and it is NOT a comedy!), and I've fallen hopelessly for Imran Khan who's adorable AND he's a social justice activist in India (he's married - NOOOOO!). <3
RANT: How come the cover art for Million Dollar Arm (2014) has only The White Guy's pic and name on the cover art?? I thought the real stars of the story are 'Rinku' and 'Dinesh'... And why do the TV adverts for The Hundred-Foot Journey (2014) all scream HELEN MIRREN!1!1! but make no mention of Manish Dayal (who is a successful American-born/raised actor) or Om Puri (he's in so many English-language Desi-themed movies)... [cue Raj Koothrapalli going: "Dude - that's racist!"]

Mostly British/Irish TV shows, with a few notable exceptions...
BBC Sherlock, Being Human UK, Misfits, Dexter, Jekyll (horror/comedy by Stephen Moffat), Doctor Who, Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures, Veronica Mars, Firefly, Twin Peaks, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, True Blood, Lost Girl, The Mentalist, Lie To Me, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Poirot, Miss Marple, The Duchess of Duke Street, Downton Abbey, Peep Show, anything with David Mitchell & Robert Webb, Black Books, The IT Crowd, The Big Bang Theory, The League of Gentlemen (my god that's some creepy sh**), Black Adder II and III, My Hero, Coupling (by Steven Moffat!), Swiss Toni, Father Ted, Alexei Sayle's Stuff, Sean's Show, The Frank Skinner Show (even though he's such a sexist/ageist bastard! he's too goddamn loveable!), anything with Russell Brand and Noel Fielding (though I can't really get into The Mighty Boosh - sorry Noel!), MerseyBeat, The Bill, In Deep, Hustle, Hotel Babylon, Life On Mars, Midsomer Murders, Inspector Lynley, Inspector Morse, Inspector Lewis, Endeavour (not yet watched but I must assume I'll love it), Prime Suspect, Cracker, Luther, The Shield, Gang Related (I love how 'Dutch Boy' from The Shield is now in Gang Related! And OMG - Det. Ryan Lopez (played by Ramon Rodriguez) is soooo hot. Anyone who looks like this dude, I wanna KNOW you (in the Biblical sense)), also I sometimes get addicted to EastEnders ('cos it's actually, y'know, exciting, unlike Corrie, lol!)
TV mini-series: Neverwhere, The Last Enemy, The Lost Room, Tipping the Velvet, The Box of Delights.
I also LOVE the music satire clips from Flight of the Conchords - they're hysterical!! xD

I prefer short story anthologies: Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Haruki Murakami, Roald Dahl, Joyce Carol Oates, Angela Carter... I am enchanted by Victorian Gothic Revival literature, such as by Joseph Sheridan LeFanu and Robert Murray Gilchrist.

Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Indian - I like to try all sorts, I revel in tasting new culinary delights! I'm interested in trying out more African, Middle Eastern and Central/South American dishes.
The six things I could never do without
Only six things?? Give over, mate - how 'bout six categories!

1. Brit stuff: British music, British films, British television, British popular culture.

2. Music stuff: Singing, guitar, keyboard or piano, bass guitar, mics, amps and other gear.

3. Intellectual stuff: English language and dialects, linguistics, word play, signs, symbols, semantics, Jungian psychology, evolutionary psychology, sociology, mythology, folklore, bio-evolutionary theories of human behaviour, schools of thought on feminism, power structures behind racism, how patriarchy created gender inequality (mostly for women, but for men as well), homophobia and transphobia, Aboriginal rights and Indigenous sovereignty, the privileges I grew up with.

4. 'Geeky' stuff: Html, Photoshop, ThinkGeek, deviantArt, COSPLAY (ANYONE who cosplays Criminal Minds - or any cop/crime/detective show - characters, gimme a holler!), Tumblr, fan art, fanvids, fanfiction, science, technology, Star Trek (mostly TNG and Voyager, but I ought to get more into The Original Series). The recent Trek 'reboot' films by J.J. Abrams are fantastic (the most recent one stars Benedict Cumberbatch from BBC Sherlock, as the villain!). And I can't help LOLing at The Big Bang Theory. I just love how they talk about the evils of Entropy and shit, it's so me...

5. Anachronistic stuff: Victorian England and the fashions, culture and literature thereof, silent film, the Edwardian Era, the '20s and '30s, Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Vaudeville shows, Burlesque shows and Carnivales, vintage costumes, and antique objects of curiosity. And let us not forget the late, great Sherlock Holmes (my favourite historical fictional character! Actually, sometimes I forget he's fictional, lol!). I also like playing with Tarot cards; I'm quite an afiocionado of Tarot deck artwork.

6. Social justice issues: Leaving the world a better place than how I found it (like the campsite rules!) is my main goal in life, y'know? I used to be involved in Amnesty International (the highlight was walking as the Amnesty Candle at Toronto's LGBT Pride Parade!). When I'm busy, I still like to sign and send off quick petition emails through organizations like, Equality Now, All Out, American Civil Liberties Association, Avaaz and Oceana. I wish I could make it to more rallies and such, but ever since the G20 crackdown (which I narrowly missed getting caught up in - I was planning to go but didn't), I'm kind of scared to go... Maybe if I had other people to go with?
I spend a lot of time thinking about
forming a fun cover band with a bunch of leftie guys'n'gals, and playing fundraisers for charities and non-profits benefiting marginalised communities. Finding a volunteer job that I can handle (and can enjoy). The next cool hobby/craft/skill to learn...
On a typical Friday night I am
dahncin'... down Streatham, on a bus. :) (Kudos if you get the musical reference!)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
is that I'm a prostitute robot from the future. Speaking of which, if you don't support legislation for sex workers' rights to safety and dignity, we won't get along, nooo...
I’m looking for
  • Guys who like girls
  • Ages 30–40
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating
You should message me if
- You are assertive (NOT passive/aggressive) and reasonably independent (NOT needy/clingy), and respect others' emotional and physical boundaries.
- You have artistic sensibilities... an active interest in art, music, film, theatre, literature.
- You have a strong sense of right and wrong... hypocrisy and injustice bother you.
- You try at all times to be honest with yourself, and seek open and honest communication with people you care about.
- You have a keen sense of adventure... you love to meet new people, explore new places, try out new things.
- If you're in Toronto, you wish to meet and brainstorm on cool creative ideas, or collaborate on curious artistic projects! :)

Important: Please understand that I am very uncomfortable with people using slang like "that's gay" (unless you mean 'fabulous' or 'homoerotic') , "that's retarded" (that's not a cool slang word, it's a slur against the intellectually disabled) , "I've been gypped" (deeply insulting and hurtful to the Roma people), or "I'm feeling so schizo today" (comparing scatterbrainedness to serious mental illness is not cool). Please don't contact me if you insist on using such derogatory slang, as they are offensive to me. Not enough people think about the responsible use of language... *sigh*

Addendum: Because the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is such a polarising subject, I think it's best to put out my (potentially deal-breaking) position: I want PEACE in the Middle East EVERYWHERE. I am against the brutal occupation of Palestine by the Israeli government and military. I am also against terrorist groups like Hamas. I just want safety for EVERYONE. I tend to side towards the Palestinians just 'cos they're so brutally oppressed (I think they deserve their own Iron Dome system! And believe me, I am glad Israel does have that system, or there would be a million more people dead by now), but I do NOT support terrorism, nor Hamas's ultimate goal of destroying Israel. My favourite political groups are interfaith partnerships, such as Salaam-Shalom, Jewish groups against the occupation of Palestine, and Muslim groups who fight antiSemitism. Coolness!

PS: I take a dim view of people who VERY OBVIOUSLY never read a word of my profile, before messaging me with some naff-ass (I refuse to use the word 'lame' cos that just insults people with a disability who walk with a limp) canned msg they fired off to a hundred different women. Like, the guy who said: "You seem really laid back and sweet, I had to message you." Me, LAIDBACK??! O_O AHAHAHAHA Okay, FWIW, I'm really very sympathetic and understanding when people are late meeting me, need to cancel at the last minute - as long as they let me know - or hurt my feelings by accident. In that sense, maybe I'm not that 'uptight', I'm cool. But I would never describe my personality as in any way 'laidback' or 'easygoing'. I do get mad about stuff easily, stress out easily. I just think it's better to be upfront about these things, in terms of potential compatibility with people. What I do have in aces, however, is a good, kind, loving heart. <3
