I am smart, weird, and kinda awesome.

My Self-Summary

Hi, I'm Rob.

I'm nice, honest, friendly, smart, and loyal.

I can also be pretty weird.

I love going out on adventures and road trips, and sometimes just for the sake of going out, even if just to Wal-Mart at 3am. Staying in can be fun too though, particularly on those dreary overcast days.

I think sarcasm, bad puns, and similar types of humor are high art forms, but I know when it's not appropriate to practice said art. Usually. It's all in fun though, I'm actually pretty lighthearted and optimistic. If you know what Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal is, that's my kind of humor.

I'd like to be a writer someday; I'm pretty good at writing, but unfortunately better at procrastinating it.

I can really nerd it up when I want to. I love video games, have played D&D and other pen and paper games in the past, and love to keep up with the latest science and tech new on Slashdot. I read through more books than I can really afford to buy at the moment, but don't like libraries.

I want to travel a lot someday, preferably sooner rather than later.

I'm a firm believer in good hygiene and taking care of your own body, both mentally and physically. Okay, maybe not so much on mental hygiene, that sounds a bit too Orwellian.

What I’m doing with my life

Trying to find a job where I can put my recently acquired degree to use, preferably making more money than I know what to do with. Also slowly working towards becoming a professional writer of science fiction and fantasy novels.

I’m really good at

Fixing things, keeping things in perspective, and taking it easy. I'm also really good at making orange freezes and omelets, though so far not at the same time.

On the flip side of the coin, I'm really bad at singing, waking up early, and taking short showers.

The first things people usually notice about me

It depends on the occasion. If I've been working on my family's farm or on my car, probably that I'm covered with oil or hay and dirt respectively. Otherwise, likely just that I'm pretty tall.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Mostly sci-fi, fantasy, and a bit of regular fiction here and there. Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, David Weber, and John Ringo are my favorite authors.

Movies (to name a few): Boondock Saints, Evil Dead, V for Vendetta, Iron Man, Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, Star Wars, Star Trek, In Bruges, and lots, lots more.

TV ('cause it should be in here too): Dexter, House, Metalocalypse, Firefly, Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Fullmetal Alchemist, Trigun, and again, plenty more.

Music: I like a little bit of everything, but mostly I listen to alternative stuff. I can't stand dumb rap. You know what I mean. A few favorites are The Killers, Muse, Postal Service, and Dethklok.

Food: I like just about everything. Some favorites are seafood, chinese, pasta, and pizza. Cheesecake is my favorite dessert ever. I don't really like black olives.

The six things I could never do without

Books to read. Lots of them.
Freedom. Yes, the kind that isn't free.
Friends.
Fun. What's life without it?
Really hot showers.
Science!

I spend a lot of time thinking about

I like to daydream a lot about pretty much anything. Sometimes I think about how to take over the world, survive a zombie uprising, defeat an alien invasion, etc. You know, just in case.

Sometimes I also wonder why so few people on this site actually respond to messages. Even a simple friendly hello gets ignored. Oh well.

On a typical Friday night I am

With friends at home or out, maybe seeing a movie, getting ready for a road trip or something, or just relaxing. Sometimes staying up all night working on random things that strike my interest.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I feel like I've spent way too much of my life outside of the public sphere. I'm just now really getting into going out places, checking out the occasional bar, meeting new people, that kind of thing. I'm taking to it pretty well so far, but I'd love to find someone on here that I could go out to various places with.

You should message me if

You want to chat, or

you're looking for "the one", that someone special your life needs, or

you're just looking for someone to go out with or be friends with, or

you're bored and/or just curious.
