My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I grew up about 90 minutes from Philadelphia but have lived here for over a decade, with that time split between two different sides of town. Despite a few flirtations with moving to other cities, I feel surprisingly settled here these days.

I work at a museum and do a variety of web and communications things there. It's mostly pretty great except for the times when it's not.

I've been playing soccer for almost 30 years and have been involved in the soccer community since I moved here. I helped to start one of the biggest leagues in the city. I was also involved in founding a soccer website that covers all things soccer in Philadelphia. I write about the Union a lot, but also seriously cover women's soccer. (Ask me about the Abby Wambach bar fight some time.) I still play a few times a week (on good weeks.)

I've gotten really into hiking in the last five years. Most weekends usually find me in the woods, often in some of the most remote parts of Pennsylvania. I am good with a map, have a good sense of direction, and am comfortable not seeing another person when I head out. I've been seeking out hard to find waterfalls the last few years. I'm (slowly) writing a book about hiking in PA.

Some random other stuff: I have a cat, want a dog, and just generally love animals. Your pet will totally like me. I have a car that I hardly use in the city and prefer to travel by bike. I play guitar and sing, and though I'm not great at either, I really enjoy it and don't plan to stop. I'm introverted but not awkward or anti-social. I like photography but I'm not photogenic.

I guess it's worth noting that I'm still (Jan 15) recovering from a serious foot injury that has my soccer playing and hiking on a temporary hiatus.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Working at the museum. Hiking a lot. Playing soccer. Hanging out at the bar. Biking around town.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Planning routes. Whether through the woods, on a bike through the city, or through the mass transit systems of a foreign country.

Getting better at photography but still just mostly excelling at getting to places where it is hard to take bad photos.

Despite the rambly mess seen here, I'm a decent writer and an improving journalist.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Recently it's been that my foot is busted. There were crutches, a walking boot, a cane, and there remains a limp.

Authors: Denis Johnson. Ann Beattie. Edward Abbey. Dave Eggers. Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Cormac McCarthy. I like books about hiking and the outdoors a lot, too.

Movies/TV: Old Joy. Love Liza. Sideways. Ghostbusters. Super Troopers. City of God. Amelie. Delicatessen. Seinfeld - forever. I'm a sucker for HBO programming, including but not limited to Treme, Bored to Death and True Detective. But The Wire remains the best show ever to be on TV.

Music: I used to be kind of snobby, but now, not so much. Okkervil River, The Tallest Man on Earth, The Dutchess and the Duke, Angel Olsen, Will Oldham, Bill Callahan. GYBE!, Stars of the Lid, Julianna Barwick. Irma Thomas, Sam Cooke, Buddy Holly, John Fahey, Joni Mitchell, etc etc etc

Food: Any combination of peanut butter and chocolate. Mexican, Indian, Mediterranean. Cheese. Cereal. Tofu hoagies. I'm vegetarian, but don't care if you are. I like a lot of beers but prefer pale ales.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How to spell Ichthyology. Who should start at center midfield. What would happen if we bushwhacked up that creek for about a mile.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Probably grabbing a beer at happy hour.
Maybe getting out of town early for the weekend to hike.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
The only time I dance is alone, cooking in my kitchen.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You like hiking, soccer, science, music, or biking.

You want to recommend a hike. I can return the favor. Also looking for recommendations on longish bike rides (50-100 miles).

You have glasses. I totally have a thing for girls with glasses. Though not exclusively by any means.
