My self-summary
I've been sitting here for over an hour, repeatedly slamming my thesaurus against the keyboard, hoping a few flattering adjectives will stick. Since that seems to be getting me nowhere, I'm just going to pull the plug and do this entire section in fragmented anecdotes:

I dressed as a pirate for almost every single Halloween of my childhood. When pirates suddenly became trendy, I was initially thrilled, but now I'm just sort of over the whole thing, since it seems to me that being popular kind of defeats the whole point of being a pirate.

I have an entire cabinet full of tea in my apartment. I love tea. Although, on some days, I wonder if I just love the idea of tea. Tea symbolizes civilization. Refinement. Leisure time. Subtlety. Whatever. All I know is if I see a package of tea with an exotic-sounding name I've never heard before, it's almost a given that I'm going to buy it and add it to the collection.

For my college capstone, I wrote and performed a 73-minute musical with a 5-person cast, 9-piece pit orchestra and 40-person choir, even though the assignment was only to put on a 40-minute recital. I may have overdone it a bit, but I regret nothing.

I am fiercely independent and picky about my friends. I talk about movies, music, television, literature, animation, games, science, and writing a LOT, so hopefully you're cool with that. Oh, and I'm not really a dog person. That's not to say that I don't like dogs, it's more that the dog-owning culture that seems to be so prevalent in LA kind of weirds me out.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a composer by trade, but I've sort of fallen into screenwriting in the last year or so. I also dabble in animation when I have the time. The thing I love about LA is that there are opportunities everywhere for just about anything.

Über-nerd that I am, both my work and my hobbies tend to keep me pent up with my computer for long periods of time, so I'm always looking to find more ways to get out and see the city. I love food and I love eating out, so extra points will be awarded to any restauranteurs and pioneers of the palate. Also to tennis-players, hikers, and gamers.
I’m really good at
Comedy writing, listening, finding humor in awkward moments, escaping intergalactic bounty hunters, orchestration, gymkata, songwriting, quoting Arrested Development, lobbing law-bombs, learning new things, making fun of bad movies, back massages.

I also do exceptionally well on standardized testing.
The first things people usually notice about me
You'd have to be pretty narcissistic to actually do the work necessary to answer this question.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

--FILM: There Will Be Blood, The Big Lebowski, Yojimbo, Death to Smoochy, Election, The Life Aquatic, The Blues Brothers, Three Amigos, Zardoz, Mary Poppins, anything by Miyazaki, Hitchcock, Kurosawa, or Wes Anderson. And I'm surprisingly excited for that Avengers sequel.

--MUSIC: Radiohead, Bartók, Pinback, Jeff Buckley, Stone Temple Pilots, Stravinsky, Oingo Boingo, Joanna Newsom, John Williams soundtracks, Paul Simon, Regina Spektor, Meshuggah.

--CUISINE: The usual: Indian, Thai, Japanese, Mexican, Korean, etc. I love dim sum, soul food, scotch, blue cheese, soup, sushi, but most of all, sushi.

Favorite video game: the Monkey Island series

Favorite type of footwear: Converse sneakers
The six things I could never do without
My laptop
Some sort of creative project to work on
A clean, well-lighted place
Facebook (sad but true)
My piano
Ham & cheddar Lunchables (Just kidding. Those are gross)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Storytelling, and how it relates to culture and religion and the meaning of life and everything. Also, human history. If you've read Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond or anything by Joseph Campbell, we should talk!
On a typical Friday night I am
These days? Probably writing. Or watching a movie. Or wasting time on the internet. Cracked.com is like a black hole made entirely of awesome.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Well, not so much private as self-effacing: I'm tremendously awkward on the phone. I also have no apparent sense of direction (I mean that literally, not in any sort of metaphysical way).
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 21–33
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
You're intelligent. You have a sense of humor. You like the idea of talking to a guy who lives slightly off the beaten path. Film buffs and musical-types are a plus.

Also if you think that the whole antiquated tradition of girls waiting for guys to make the first move is completely and utterly stupid. I mean, seriously. If you're in a room with two guys and one is a sensitive-yet-charming bookish gentlemanly-type, and the other is a serial rapist, which one do you think is going to make the first move? I'm just saying.
