My self-summary
I’m a computer science student, an avid gamer and an aspiring rationalist.

I'm always curious about science, experimental psychology or just the way things work and how they could be optimized. I have an interest in game design and (mathematical) game theory. For entertainment, I’m into fantasy & science fiction in all their forms; the more thought-provoking, the better. I enjoy all kinds of games, be they video games or tabletop games or improv theatre.

I’m an atheist, a feminist, a bickering skeptic and a utilitarian consequentialist. I identify as polyamorous but I’m willing to compromise on it (and am not currently in any relationship).

I'm more than willing to talk about any of the above at length.

I’m fluent in English (though my accent needs some work) but my native tongue is French.

Le français est ma langue maternelle.
What I’m doing with my life
I’m studying computer science at an Haute Ecole in Brussels for another year and a half while learning a bit of web design on the side. I do not yet have long-term plans, but I don’t expect to stay in Belgium forever.

I manage a Magic: the Gathering club and I GM for a couple of roleplaying groups. I'm very active in my local LessWrong rationalist meetup group. I read or listen to audiobooks a lot and browse the internet a lot. Since Brussels is stuck in a permanent raining season, I’m not doing as much biking as I’d like.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I love “mindfuck” books or movies that force you to think or review your ethical values: time travel, self-aware AIs, transhumanism, really weird aliens… As soon as I’m done, I want to check the internet for all the subtleties I’ve missed, re-read/re-watch it, and talk about it. And if there’s decent character development along the way, all the better. I’m also partial to big-budget geek movies with good action scenes, and wuxia.

My favourite books include pretty much anything by Neil Gaiman or Terry Pratchett, Zelazny’s Amber saga, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, The Hyperion Cantos, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, and Gödel, Escher, Bach. On the internet, I’ve been catching up on Yudkowski’s LessWrong Sequences and Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality with great interest.

In comic books and manga, I have a taste for the magical girl genre, plus some European fantasy and a bit of seinen. And I'll happily watch the likes of Studio Ghibli.

As for music, I like a hodgepodge of indie rock groups (or, often, just individual tracks) and symphonic rock to get me through early rainy mornings.

In PC gaming, I prefer roleplaying games (Planescape: Torment is a favourite) and sandbox action games, with a little RTS and a little FPS on the side. I also like various very innovative or atmospheric games, often indie (Limbo, Portal, Psychonauts, Braid). I am not on any MMO. I enjoy boardgames but have not had enough experience to form strong preferences. Magic: The Gathering occupies more of my time that I'm willing to admit.

I like Italian food and various kinds of Asian food, especially spicy. Also fruit juices, which make up for my rather low alcohol consumption.
The six things I could never do without
Chocolate, games, knowledge that scientific progress is constantly happening in the background, the internet, a sound mind, and a good book. (I never go anywhere without a book, though smartphones have made this considerably easier.)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to think properly. How to accomplish my goals, and why I can't seem to turn my conclusions into actual actions. Games, both from a player's and a designer's perspective.
On a typical Friday night I am
Playing Magic with friends, or at home watching a movie or playing computer games.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have a pathologically bad memory of names and faces. It takes a very long time for either to stick; even with frequent encounters, I'm never entirely sure. All of my friends have a "Roxolan's memory" story.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 18–33
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating, activity partners
You should message me if
You think we have a lot in common.

You think there's no reason why men should be the ones sending the first message on dating websites (beyond gender stereotypes, and fuck those).

You want to go watch a movie with a fellow geek, or play any sort of game, or have a conversation about the ethics of artificial super-intelligence around a cup of hot chocolate.
