My Self-Summary
During my college years, I earned a degree in Sequential Art from SCAD, but that went nowhere after graduation so I became certified as a GIS Technician as well; I have been working in GIS ever since. I am happy with my career path because it gives me a steady paycheck with regular hours and allows me to do my art in my free time, for myself and my friends, whenever I feel like it.
Sports hold no interest for me, particularly watching them. I *am* interested in good conversation, though, either about politics or art or gaming or whatever. I like movies, but I see precious few of them these days. Hmm... I like puzzles, and am quite good at Sudoku. Board games like Arkham Horror or Pandemic are fun, too.
I've spent a month in London and would love to go back when I can afford it. Visiting Ireland is a dream vacation of mine. I don't have pets, but I do like them and I have no (known) allergies.
I really, really like cool temperatures and have an impressive collection of fans in my flat, at least one per room. I still haven't dusted off my jacket yet and probably won't for another few weeks. I have been jokingly referred to as a "snow dwarf". :)
I hate how these summaries make almost every sentence start with "I". :P
(note: my profile is still under construction)
What I’m doing with my life
Professionally, I've been working as a GIS Technician at Georgia Power for the past several years. I actually like my job!
I am also in the very (very) early stages of learning Japanese, just because I want to.
I’m really good at
The first things people usually notice about me
Friends I haven't seen in a while notice my beard, which is new, but I'll probably shave it soon.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Movies: Pirates of the Caribbean for the win. I have a pirate flag on my wall and celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day annually. :) I like FUN movies, like the Princess Bride and the Three Musketeers, which have a nice mix of action, adventure and comedy. I have a certain fondness for "twist" movies, like The Usual Suspects, too.
Music: Pandora Radio is great! Thanks to that, I have recently discovered that I like Celtic punk quite a bit. I like any music if I'm in the right mood and/or situation, but on a day-to-day basis I tend to favor rock/punk/classical/blues and disfavor pop/country/rap. Currently, my iPhone contains Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Johnny Cash, Michael Longcor, the PotC soundtracks, Spanish guitar, Tom Smith, Andrew WK, ZZ Top, and assorted singles.
Food: Chinese food is a particular favorite. Pizza, burgers, Italian, Indian and Southern are good, but a nice home-cooked meal is also very appealing. I am trying to eat more fish because it is supposedly the 'right' kind of food for my body's metabolism, but still don't know what fish I like yet. Not too picky about things, except that I HATE green bell peppers with the burning passion of a thousand suns. I usually don't drink alcohol unless I'm at a party.
BONUS ROUND:
TV: I only watch House, so I don't even have cable. OTOH, there's always Hulu. :-) I was a big fan of Star Trek TNG when I was younger and have begun watching episodes again via Netflix.
RPGs: I am an avid table-top role-player and it is an important social outlet for me. I've played D&D for years, but am kinda burnt out on it. I'm playing in an awesome homebrew GURPS Biotech game during the week, and 7th Sea remains an all-time favorite. I've recently been exposed to some of the cooler Indie RPGs (Spirit of the Century, Dogs in the Vineyard, Swashbucklers of the Seven Skies, Dread, etc) and am eager to play them some more.
The six things I could never do without
1 Computer w/ internet
2 Gaming (tabletop, not MMO)
3 Friends, smarter the better
4 iPhone*
5 Books
6 My individual liberty
* I held out against the iPhone for a long time, but I finally gave in and now I find it essential. Dammit.
