I like kittens and spicy bloody marys. That's a start.
Let's see...I'm a pretty good blend of creative and logical. I come from a long line of mathematicians, and I have an appreciation for that sort of thinking, but my passion lies more with the artistic. Mostly I'm a writer in all its forms, but I think that as an artist it's good to branch out and express yourself in different ways. So just on my own I paint, knit, and do ceramics work. (Just started wheel throwing. It rocks my world.)
I love animals, and I'm big on animal rights. I don't give other people a hard time about their choices, but if asked about why I'm a vegetarian, I'll give you a big spiel about animal cruelty.
I lean pretty far to the left politically, and I have no problem calling myself a socialist. I don't think it's some filthy concept like most people seem to. I actually don't follow politics as much as I really ought to, but I'm happy to discuss it. In general I try to view issues from as many sides as possible, which can lead to a lot of frustration until I hear other people's firm beliefs -- so bring it on. Maybe we can open our eyes to something new together.
I'm a big supporter of human rights. One of the better questions on here was "What's more important, your country or your world," and I absolutely have to say "world." I think things like patriotism simply because you're born somewhere defined by arbitrary lines are ridiculous. Instead I think it's better to celebrate that we are all humans and try to work for some sort of goal for the better of all of us. And I don't think that's naive. Optimistic certainly, and a challenging road to walk. But not at all naive, and completely worth the work.
I like willow trees, I walk around my house in the buff, and sometimes order chocolate milk at bars.
I'm a mix of grounded and spontaneous. I laugh at myself -- a lot, and I try not to take myself too seriously. But I recognize there is a time to put jokes aside as well -- that is actually a more recent development, but a good one. I'm committed to personal growth, and want someone else who is as well. Just be passionate about something (anything) and pursue it completely. Passion and empathy are the qualities most important to me, in myself, but especially in others.
I typically don't follow any sports. I know especially in Louisiana that's something that I stand pretty alone on, but there it is.
After a taking a long hiatus from school, I'm finally about to finish a degree in creative writing, and I'm working towards getting my career in place. At the same time, I love just taking things as they come and not worrying too much about the future. I hate missing an opportunity when it comes around, and love a good adventure/experience. I have: gone canoeing from Minnesota up into Canada for a week; backpacked through the mountains of New Mexico for 12 days; journeyed all over Asia; crewed a wooden ship up and down the Mississippi for 3 months...more to come soon.
Creativity and uniqueness are incredibly important to me. I really hate when people seem to all be completely the same. (And I hate to judge or have preconceived notions about anything, but this really makes me dislike the entire sorority and fraternity thing.) In general though, I prefer anything hand made with character to something that's generic.
I think that the saying "it's not personal, it's just business" is a piss poor excuse for a person to be an asshole.
Be nice. Go green. Keep loving. Stay Happy.
