I am originally from Toronto, but have been in Edmonton for the last five years. I am a newspaper reporter, so if nothing else, you should meet me, so you can say you saw one before we go extinct.

I do what I do, because I am an insanely curious person and like telling stories. There are few jobs I can think of that let me ask this many questions. I think of myself as smart and funny, whether that is true is up to other people.

I like variety, the combination of roaring nights on the town and quiet nights in.

I am a mild-mannered reporter by day and by night a mild-mannered reporter tucked into bed.

Asking questions, listening, telling stories, I am good at those things at work, but I like to think I am good at those things off the clock as well. When I ask someone about their day, it is because I generally want to know.

I am an above average cook and I have a vast trove of absolutely useless knowledge, which is great for trivial pursuit and just about nothing else. I like to make people laugh and for the right laugh, I can make it my sole purpose.

I am not sure what people notice, a decent question for a first date I suppose.

I like books a lot, so I could probably fill this page with books, but at the top of the list includes Into thin Air, The Perfect Storm, Catcher in the Rye, Moneyball, War reporting for cowards, the Game and I have a mild addiction to John Grisham novels. I tend to read non-fiction, over fiction.

Movies: Godfather, Star Wars, The American president, Ocean's Eleven, The Dark Night, Saving Private Ryan.

Music: My tastes are pretty eclectic I like Pearl Jam, Sam Cooke, the Commitments, Johnny Cash, Metric, Dave Mathews band, Gershwin.

TV: West Wing, House, Frontline, How I met your mother, Criminal Minds, Castle I also watch Dragon's Den and Shark Tank and a lot of HGTV for reasons I can't really explain.

Food: I like a variety of food and trying new things, but can't handle spicy food. It's not my fault it is genetic, my family is Scottish and the potato and salt are the only spices we know.

The wise ass in me wants to start listing water, air, food, but I suppose that isn't really the point.

First season of the West Wing, phone, laptop, notebook and pens, family, naps.

My work, Canadian politics, U.S. politics, books, where I have left my keys.

Out with friends for a drink, I work Sunday to Thursday so Friday is my Saturday.

My sense of directions sucks. I print google maps to places that should be easy to find.

Also, I can't tie a bow-tie. When I look at one untied, I don't really even understand the moving parts.
